David Mellor Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Methuen Family Funeral Home on Mar. 20, 2026.
David B. Mellor, 92, of Methuen, passed away on Thursday, March 19, 2026, at his home, surrounded by his devoted family. He was the cherished husband of Claire A. (Skaff) Mellor, with whom he shared sixty-nine years of loving marriage-a testament to their enduring partnership and mutual support.

Born in Lawrence, Massachusetts, on November 3, 1933, David was the son of the late James and Ruth (Hill) Mellor. A proud graduate of Searles High School, Class of 1952, he promptly answered the call to service by enlisting in the United States Army, where he honorably served during the Korean War. Upon his discharge, David embarked on a distinguished career with New England Telephone, later known as AT&T, advancing to the position of System Supervisor. He dedicated more than thirty-five years to the company, earning the respect of colleagues for his reliability and expertise, before retiring.

David and Claire cherished their winters in Florida, where they enjoyed the warmth and tranquility together. An avid skier, David delighted in family skiing excursions, including a memorable trip to Zermatt, Switzerland, the iconic Matterhorn, with his son Stephen - it was a highlight that reflected his spirit of adventure and appreciation for scenic beauty and life. Summers brought equal joy, as he and Claire spent cherished time in York Harbor, Maine, creating lasting memories along the coast with family and friends. His most valued time in life was that spent with his wife Claire and his family.

David will be profoundly missed by his loving wife, Claire; his two children, Donna L. Welch and her husband, Shaun, of Salem, New Hampshire, and James A. Mellor and his wife, Alicia, of Salem, New Hampshire; his five grandchildren, Caitlin (Welch) Pearson and her husband Adam, David Welch and his significant other Abby, Nathaniel Welch and his wife Dy, Stephen Mellor, and Sarah Mellor; his six great-grandchildren, Daniel and Braden Pearson, Mason and Kaden Welch, and Aedan and Aymery Welch; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Stephen D. Mellor, whose memory remained close to his heart.

At the family's request, all services will remain private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Jimmy Fund at www.jimmyfund.org. To share an online condolence or memory with the family, please visit www.methuenfh.com.
