John A. Montefusco, 73, of Lawrence, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 16, 2026, after a very long illness. Born to the late John A. and Nellie M. (Trigilio) Montefusco, John was a man defined by his innate ability to brighten any room he entered. Driven by curiosity, he always offered insightful, witty remarks and stayed up to date on politics and current events.

During the 1980's and 1990's, John was a prominent fixture of Boston's LGBTQ+ social fabric as a master bartender at Chaps Boston for more than 15 years. His commitment to service began in his earlier years in Queens, New York, and continued into his retirement in Methuen. For over a decade, he was a familiar and beloved presence at the Global Service Station as a gas station attendant, a role that allowed him to continue his lifelong passion for conversation and community.

His family, whom he loved dearly, will remember him for his legacy of friendship and the many lives he touched through shared drinks, home-cooked Italian meals, jokes, and conversations. John was also a huge fan of Diana Ross, whose music brought him great joy.

John is survived by his sister, Carol A. Montefusco, of Haverhill, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Larry, Michael, and Bobby.

Burial will be private and held at a later date.
