David Wayne Mendel, age 55, of Gulfport, Mississippi, passed away at home on Wednesday, August 13, 2025.
David Wayne Mendel, affectionately known as “Dave” and “Fathead,” was born in Madisonville, Louisiana, and resided in Gulfport, Mississippi. A self-employed carpenter, David took great pride in his work, with his proudest accomplishment being the construction of the lighthouse and harbor at Jones Park in Gulfport.
David loved to sing, ride his motorcycles, and spend time with his family and friends. He accepted Christ into his heart and life on April 4, 2025, a decision that brought him peace and comfort.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ed and Opal Bigner; his mother, Karon Anne Bigner Mendel; his father, Allen Mendel; and brothers, Mark Allen Mendel and Aaron Charles Mendel.
David is survived by his loving companion & Baby Mama of 26 years, Amamda Featherston. He leaves behind his children: Brittiany Anne Mendel, Cierra Gabrielle Mendel, Dakota Wayne Pelton, and Christian Matthew Scott. He is also survived by his siblings, Paul Eric Mendel & wife Julie, and LeAnne Mendel Berard and husband Joseph.
David was blessed with eight grandchildren: Reid Emersyn Williams, Nevaeh Baldwin, Bryson Mendel, Danyel Baldwin, Lilly Blank, Melody Blank, Myles Mendel, and Lake White.
David was deeply loved and supported by many throughout his life and until the very end. He cherished each and every person who was part of his journey and gave his heart freely in return. He brought joy, laughter, and love to those around him—often making people laugh, sometimes until they cried.
Though he is no longer with us, David’s memory will live on in those who loved him. This is not goodbye, but “until we meet again.”
