David (Alex) Alexander Mendenhall, born February 27, 1968, passed away peacefully, in his sleep, on July 17, 2025.
Alex was a kind, unassuming gentleman with the gift of making people laugh, accidentally or not. He was a comfort, and great provider for his family, and a true friend to all who met him. He adored his wife (and best friend) of 30 years and was at his best surrounded by his loved ones. He loved the beach at Bald Head Island where he could be found, fishing pole in hand, jokingly complaining about the "one that got away." He provided comic relief and many hours of entertainment during endless gatherings with family and friends. Alex was a special soul that left this earth way too soon. He will be fiercely missed by all.
Alex joined the military immediately after graduating from high school, serving three years as a Paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne Division. Upon completion of his service, he earned a Truck Driving certificate. He drove a truck for many years until he became a Real Estate Broker, working for his Father's Real Estate company, ReMax Executive. He eventually made his way to the United States Post Office where he has been for the last several years, working in the Transportation Department. His most recent passion was Day Trading, successfully, with the anticipation of early retirement.
Alex is survived by his wife Kelly, his son Matt Mendenhall and wife Jessica of Concord, their four daughters, Isabella, Kyly, Raelynn and Dessa, his daughter Michele Edmonds and husband Chris of Ft. Mill, SC, their two children CJ and Mila, his father, David Mendenhall and wife Karen, his brother Brad Mendenhall and wife Cathy of Raleigh, their two children David and Deborah, as well as many Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, Nieces and Nephews who will miss him dearly.
He is predeceased by his mother, Nancy Landis Ramsey and her husband Tom Ramsay
A private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date to honor Alex's memory.
Memorial donations may be made in Alex's honor to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation.

I've known you since we were in elementary school and lived on the next street over in the neighborhood.

We fought and hungout together laughing and playing all on the same day

Later on in life we babysat each other's children or they played together while we sat talking and remembered our younger days.
What teams we were on and sports we played in together
Cub Scouts and Webloes all the way through to camping trips in BoyScouts
So many memories

I will miss you brother
