David Wayne Mikoryak, 75, of Zionsville, IN, passed away on September 6, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

David was born on March 21, 1950, in Detroit, MI, to John and Veda La June (Shelby) Mikoryak, and grew up in Allen Park, MI, with his three siblings. He was married for 50 years to his beloved wife, Merri Kay (Basner), and together they raised two daughters, Courtney (Tom Jones) and Sarah (Shannon Sligo). He was the proud grandfather of Evelyn and Lauren Jones, and Ryan and Hazel Sligo. David was a devoted member of the Greek Orthodox Church.

A graduate of Eastern Michigan University, David built a distinguished career as a marketing and engineering executive in the public transportation industry. He was instrumental in introducing the hybrid electric bus to major markets worldwide and once presented his research at the United Nations. His career led his family to call many places home, from Brownsville, TX, and Shannon, Ireland, to Lamar, CO; Roswell, NM; Westborough, MA; and, ultimately, Zionsville, IN.

David had many passions, including entertaining his daughters and grandchildren with true and make-believe stories, skeet shooting, and developing numerous collections. Later in life, he became a master woodworker and enjoyed carving and creating replicas of early American furniture.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, September 11, at 10 a.m. at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral (3500 W 106th St, Carmel, IN 46032), followed by the funeral service at 11 a.m. His burial will take place at Oaklawn Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral, in gratitude for the community, friendships, and deep faith that sustained David in his final years, or to the Ascension St. Vincent Foundation (250 W. 96th Street, Suite 470, Indianapolis, IN 46260) in appreciation of the compassionate care he received at the Heart Center during his final months.
