David Allan Miller, 62, of Pennock, died Tuesday, January 21st at his home. His funeral will be 11:00 am, Tuesday, January 28th at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar. David was born October 29, 1962, in Copiague, NY, the son of William and Margaret (Hyland) Miller. He was baptized in New York at Our Lady of Perpetual Help. In 1972 the family moved to Willmar where he was confirmed at Church of St. Mary Catholic Church in Willmar. Dave graduated from Willmar High School in 1980. While in his high school welding class, Dave built the large "W" that was tied with rags and burnt for homecoming. This became a tradition for many years at the Kennedy School football field.
After high school, Dave attended Willmar Vo-Tech, earning a degree in welding in 1983. Following graduation, David was a welder for many years. It was while working as a welding supervisor at Kwik File, Inc. in Fridley, MN that he met Shannon, his wife. They were united in marriage on December 21, 1992 in Mesa, AZ.
Dave and Shannon moved to Mesa, AZ in 1998. It was there that he transferred his skills with metal to learn the trade of wood cabinetry by partnering with his brother Mike in Aries Kitchens. He learned all aspects of running an independent small business there.
Moving back to MN in 2003, Dave began work at The Floor to Ceiling Store in Willmar as a kitchen and bathroom designer. As an ongoing mentor in the field of kitchen and bathroom cabinetry, Mike, Dave's brother, enabled him to grow in confidence and skill. By 2013, Dave started his own business, The Cabinet Guy, for which he is well known and loved by many in the community.
Dave and Shannon have lived in Pennock since 2003. In 2005, Teagan and Austin joined the family as foster children and then were adopted. As an involved community member, Dave served on the city council of Pennock for several years.
David enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, going to the lake and relaxing. Spending time with his nieces and nephews and being part of their lives brought a special joy to Dave. The past year he also enjoyed grandchildren and playing games with his family, including Five Crowns and Yahtzee.
It was also during this past year that Dave was diagnosed with a rare cancer. This proved to be the biggest challenge of his life. Much of his time included doctor appointments and treatments and some hospitalizations. Dave was very grateful to all the medical community in Willmar, U of M, and Sioux Falls, SD who helped to care for him and he spoke highly of them all.
Dave fought against the cancer, but was not afraid to die. He expressed hope, light and life that is found in Jesus Christ to be his own.
Dave will always be remembered for his easy going personality and infectious smile. He loved others and others loved him. All of us will miss him, but the love continues warmly in our hearts.
Surviving are his wife, Shannon of Pennock; son, Austin Miller of Pennock and daughter, Teagan (Joe) Loso of Waite Park; two grandchildren, Charlotte Diane and Bailey David as well as one along the way. Also surviving are his mother, Margaret Miller, sister, Kathy Feitzinger, and brothers, Mike (Nancy) Miller all of Mesa, and Bill (Laurie) Miller of Pennock as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father and brother-in-law, Ronald Feitzinger.
