I met David in 1976 in Miss Jones 10th grade elective English course on science fiction. Her first question to the class was: "Can anyone name a science fiction writer who is also a scientist?" David´s and my hands were the only response and marked the beginning of a friendship that lasted 49 years. He was the smartest person I´ve ever known and had a sense of humor that could be incapacitating, especially when he employed any number or references to the British comedy he loved so well. His passions were intense, and he excelled particularly at photography. We spent many happy Saturdays at my house eating the wonderful meals my mother prepared for us while talking, smoking pipes and commenting on the world´s problems. He was in every important way my brother and while life hurtled its ups and downs his love and kindness was always there to sustain me. He taught me so much...especially resilience. He will be in my heart to the end of my days and I´m looking forward to seeing him again in the house of the Lord. God Bless you, David, you were a real human being.
