David G. Moore, affectionately known as Dave by his friends and family, passed away on January 19, 2024, in Sayre, PA, surrounded by the love of his extensive family. Born on July 31, 1938, in Towanda, PA, Dave was a beacon of joy and laughter throughout his 86 years.
Dave was a devoted husband to his wife, Barbara, with whom he shared a beautiful life since their marriage on March 15, 1980. Together, they raised a wonderful family that included their children: Frank Hovancik, Michael Hovancik and his wife Mitzi; Penny and her husband Doug Graham; Christine Struble; Tommy Warner and his wife Billie Jo; and Timmy Warner. Dave was also a proud and loving grandfather to nineteen grandchildren: Ben, Jessica, David, Jason, Chelsea, Rachael, Adam, Kaitlyn, Zacceri, Dustin, Jeffery, Jessica, Jocelyn, Rick, Sheena, Taylor, Whitney, Stephanie, and Michelle, as well as a doting great-grandfather to 36 great-grandchildren.
He leaves behind his brother Gordon Moore and family, along with his brother and sister-in-law, Bryan and Virginia Rogers. Dave also leaves behind several nieces, nephews, and a community that loved him. Dave was predeceased by his parents, Gerald Moore and Dorothy Jakway Hull.
A graduate of Binghamton North High School class of 1956, Dave's strong work ethic was evident from the start. The day after graduation, he began working for his father at Moore's Truck Service, dedicating 30 years to the family business. In 1986, he and Barb embarked on a new venture, opening D & B Express Inc., a trucking business they both operated with dedication and pride.
Dave's interests were as varied as they were passionate. He was a fixture at Gail's & Jen's, where he and the guys would have their morning coffee and conversation, humorously claiming to solve all the world's problems. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially in Canada at Tooley's Lodge. His flower gardens were a testament to his love for nature, and his boulder rocks and lotus fences became a hallmark of his unique touch to landscaping.
Traveling was one of Dave's greatest pleasures. He and Barb journeyed to Alaska, toured the National Parks, admired the fall foliage in the New England states, and relished their time in Lancaster and Florida. Attending races in North Carolina and cheering on Geoff Bodine were among his favorite pastimes.
Those who knew Dave will remember him as a man who lived life to the fullest, embodying the words funny, generous, and loving. He had a knack for making people laugh, a heart that knew no bounds when it came to giving, and a warmth that made each of his family members feel deeply loved.
In the words of Ralph Waldo Emerson, "To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children... to leave the world a bit better... to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded." Dave truly succeeded in all these things and so much more.
Dave's legacy is one of joy, hard work, and boundless love. His impact on his family and community will be felt for generations to come. As we say goodbye to this remarkable man, we celebrate a life well-lived and cherish the countless memories he has given us.
We will gather on Friday, January 26th from 4 – 6 pm at the Sutfin Funeral Chapel, 273 S. Main St., to share memories and stories of Dave's life. A period of visitation will also be held on Saturday, January 27th from 11 – 12 pm at the funeral chapel. A memorial service and celebration of Dave's life will be held at 12 pm.
