David Moran Obituary David Paul Moran, 95 years young, passed away peacefully, February 16, 2025, at Rush Memorial Hospital with his children and son-in-law by his side. He was born January 23, 1930, at his parents', Joseph and Myrtha (Barnes) Moran, Rush County, IN family homestead.
At a very young age, David learned the importance of a strong work ethic, working the fields alongside his parents and many siblings. The 9* child of 13, David spent many childhood evenings enjoying family baseball and croquet games, and summer Sunday cookouts. On more than one occasion, David was known to be the instigator of 'wrestling matches' on the school playground and of course, at home; however, his beloved Mother referred to him as the peacemaker of the family! That endearing quality was predominant his entire life. David attended St. Mary Catholic School and in1948, graduated from Rushville High School.
Prior to enlisting in the U.S. Air Force, David loved attending Notre Dame Football games and shooting pool at the Knights of Columbus where he was a 77-year Fourth Degree member of that organization. His four years of military service during the Korean War took him world-wide, stationed primarily in Korea and Japan. 'Quite an eye-opening experience for a country boy' as he would say! He was a weapon and artillery supply Sargent, but David was most proud of the fact he was an 'altar-boy' almost every Sunday of his enlistment.
In the autumn of 1954, David met the love of his life, Gloria Marie Towne. They were joined in marriage on a cold, snowy day, December 26, 1955. Sadly Gloria passed away in 2015, just a few months shy of their 60' wedding anniversary. After 30 years, David retired from Indianapolis Chevrolet Truck and Bus. Soon after, he and Gloria spent several winters on Panama City Beach, FL.
David, a lifetime member of St. Mary Church, truly was a devout, faith-filled man who lived and practiced his convictions daily, inspiring so many. For over four decades, the parish priests relied on David to decorate the church for the Christmas Season. A task he adored.
Over the years, David was involved with the Cub Scouts, Webelos, and the local Cub Baseball League. He could always be seen in the front row of every dance recital, school play, choral concert, and soccer game. His involvement with RCHS Boosters, Indiana Landmarks, and Rush County Democrat Party kept him active for many years. The past 25 years, David became an avid reader, favoring books about American and political history, Abraham Lincoln, and recent works by Jon Meacham. He was a dedicated fan of RCHS Boys Soccer, Notre Dame & IU Athletics, and the Indianapolis Colts.
Above all, David will be remembered as a devoted husband and doting, loving, encouraging and proud father and father-in-law.
Although David is gone, he will live in our hearts forever. David is survived by his son, David Charles and companion, Daydn Ginther; daughter, Dawn Marie and husband, Craig Trent;
granddaughter Jessica and great -grandchildren Gabriel and Presley. He will be missed by numerous nieces, nephews, neighbors and friends.
David was preceded in death by his wife, Gloria; parents, Joseph and Myrtha Moran; former son-in-law Brian Young; and all 12 siblings and their spouses.
