David Wayne Nickel, 70, of Terre Haute and formerly West Terre Haute, passed into eternity on October 16, 2024. Dave, as most knew him, was born on June 9, 1954, to Alice Anderson Nickel and Andrew Willard Nickel, both of whom preceded him in death. Dave leaves behind two children, Ashley Nickel Thompson and Matt Nickel (Jennifer), three grandchildren, Braxton Thompson, Macy Nickel and Drew Nickel and four bonus grandchildren, Mara, Jace, Zada and Kira Russell, as well as a brother Andy Nickel (Gloria.) Dave enjoyed being the life of the party and loved to play practical jokes on friends and family. He had a generous heart, sponsoring numerous youth teams over the years; and he would often give the last dollars he had to someone in need. Dave owned various businesses through the years including Nickel Used Trucks, Illiana Truck Parts, Double Nickel Trucking, The Caring Corner, and Nickel Pickup and Van Accessories and ultimately retired from his favorite occupation, long-haul trucking. Dave was a human “GPS”long before GPS existed. Family could call him from almost anywhere in the country and he would give directions right down to the exit number they needed. He loved traveling and sharing his favorite spots with others, especially Disney World. Dave’s life will be celebrated during a visitation from 4:00 - 6:00 PM Monday, October 21, 2024, at West Side Christian Church followed by a service honoring his life at 6:00 PM, with the Reverend Chris Wilbur officiating. Family is invited to stay for a dinner following the service. Arrangements are under the direction of Fitzpatrick Funeral Home.
