David Eugene Norman, 58, of Indianapolis, formerly of Elkhart, passed away peacefully in his home May 7, 2025.
He was born Oct. 24, 1966, in Osceola, Arkansas, to Willie "Sonny" Norman and Ruby (Bradley) Cossey.
David gave his life to God at an early age. He was a faithful member of Greater Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church where he sang in the youth choir. He graduated from Jimtown High School in 1985 and also attended college in Nebraska.
David is survived by three daughters: RaNesha (Odanny) Perez, Elicia Swopshire and Alexis Norman; two sons, RaTerious (Bianca) Walker and Zachary Walker. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Kamariah Alleshouse, Oraya Perez, Zara Perez, Orion Perez, RaTerious Walker Jr., Raegun Walker and Nadia Walker.
David also leaves to mourn his passing, his parents, Ruby (Pastor Nichols) Cossey Jr. of Elkhart and Willie "Sonny" Norman Jr. of Michigan City, Indiana; three sisters, Sheila Norman of Elkhart, Dr. Deborah Howard of Fort Wayne, Indiana, and June (James) Pruitt of Gary, Indiana. Also surviving are six brothers, Nichols "Fella" Cossey of Elkhart, George (Kelly) Cossey of East Chicago, Indiana, Mike Griffin of Elkhart, Willie "Sha'Ron" Norman III of Indianapolis and Lil Willie Norman IV of South Bend; uncles, Andrew Bradley, Jimmie (Zan) Norman of Elkhart, Lewis Norman of Indianapolis, and three aunts, Tyllie Johnson of South Bend, and Leannell (James) Parker and Rosie (Matt) Washington, both of Elkhart; five nephews, Zavion Howard, Quilyn Howard-Upshaw, Zediah Norman, Sicario Norman and Elijah Smith; three nieces, Aniya Howard, Dejoyah Johnson and Shaliyah Hunt; three great-nephews, KyMere, Josiah and KaMarion; and three great-nieces, Ja'Vionna, Aniyah and Z'Aniyah; plus a host of cousins who loved him like a brother.
David is preceded in death by his grandparents, Scott (Headie) Bradley and Willie (Scottie) Norman Sr., nine uncles, one aunt, Vera Lewis and a host of other family members.
David Norman was known for pulling up and starting the party. And don't play no old school music cause he thought he could still break and pop lock. His unconditional love for his family made him the glue that kept both sides of the family together. His loyalty made him all his friends' favorite. Everything about David was big. His love, his heart, smile, his laugh, his personality and don't forget them jokes! That's why he was everyone's Big Brother, Big Cuz and that's how he came to be known as Big 6.
Services for David will be held on Saturday, May 24, at noon at Greater Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church, 1829 Oakland Ave., Elkhart, IN 46516. Visitation for David will begin at 11 a.m., also at the church. Hartzler-Gutermuth-Inman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
