David Manuel Ortiz, born on September 5, 1948, in Arizona, passed away peacefully on September 21, 2025, in Phoenix, Arizona, surrounded by his family. He dedicated ten years to the Duvall Mines followed by twenty years with the Arizona Highway Department, where he was known for his strong work ethic and team spirit.
A man of active curiosity, David was deeply competitive, particularly in sports. His enthusiasm extended beyond playing as he was a devoted fan of the University of Arizona and ardently supported all professional sports teams in Arizona. He enjoyed watching games on television, often accompanied by friends who shared in his passion for athletic endeavors.
In his leisure time, David found joy in camping and playing softball, activities that allowed him to connect with nature and enjoy the camaraderie of his peers. His commitment to teamwork was evident not only in sports but also in the way he engaged with family and friends.
David is survived by his beloved sister, Irma, and his children, Sheila, Pricilla, and Michael. He cherished his role as a father and grandparent to Michael Anthony Ray, Desiree, D'Marco, Zachary, Xavier, Adrien, and great-grandchild Sophia. He will also be remembered fondly by many nieces and nephews.
David is preceded in death by his mother and father, sister Melva, Nana Sophia, and his son David. His legacy of kindness, competitiveness, and love will remain in the hearts of all who knew him.
