David Oten Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hustad Funeral Home on Nov. 6, 2025.
David Oten passed away on Thursday, October 30, 2025. David was born April 26, 1954 in Portland, Oregon to parents, George and Lillie Mae Oten. Both of his parents preceded him in death as well as brothers, Ronald and Calvin Oten. David is survived by his sister, Erma Oten, Salt Lake City, Utah and brother, Dean Oten, Portland, Oregon. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews.

David was a very proud member of the Columbia Boy's Club for many, many years and was totally involved in the leadership and comradery the Boy's Club afforded him and his friends. As his friends will tell you, he was certainly a North Portlander/St Johns member of that community through and through. He showed up for as many events as possible for his neighborhood and friends.

David loved sports and in high school excelled in all sports, and especially loved Basketball. His love of sports continued throughout his life watching all sports, since, of course, how many sports channels can you watch at one time. Another love of David's was Smooth Jazz. He attended as many jazz concerts as he could with his friends. Among his favorite Smooth Jazz artists was Grover Washington, Jr.

His family and friends meant the world to him. He was always willing to help others out in whatever way possible, and was often called on to lend a helping hand whether it meant showing up with his pickup for someone's moving day or coming over with his tools. Among those he could count as his ride or die posse are Gerald Brown, David Harris, Terry Malone, Willie McCoy and his longtime partner, Michele Wamsley. The Oten family wishes to express a special thank you to all who were a part of David's life.

A Celebration of Life service will begin at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, November 19, 2025 at Hustad Funeral Home, located at 7232 N Richmond Avenue, Portland, Oregon. A get together at the Twilight Room will follow the service. Interment will be at Portland Memorial at a later date. Our family wishes to thank everyone for their continued support.

Private inurnment will be a Portland Memorial Mausoleum in Portland.
