Ross Allen Vanderkamp, 43, passed away unexpectedly at home on February 19, 2026. Ross loved his wife, his children, his family, and the people closest to him more than anything. He was kind, generous, and ready for fun. He found joy in the outdoors and especially at the cabin — his “happy place.” In St. Johns, he was known by name in neighborhood shops and restaurants, always striking up conversations and building community wherever he went. He was a devoted father, endlessly proud of his son and daughter. He loved coaching their sports and dreamed of coaching them for years to come. Sundays were reserved for football, where he cheered tirelessly for the Detroit Lions — often marveling at their creative last-minute losses.
Born and raised in Holland, Michigan, Ross loved telling the story of how he and his wife went to high school together — only to reconnect years later on the other side of the country in Portland, Oregon.
Ross was a dedicated husband, father, brother, son, and friend who never missed a chance to say “I love you.” When he proposed, he asked his wife to be his “adventure partner for life,” and together they traveled the world, with special memories made in Mexico, where they were married, and in Croatia, which held a special place in his heart. He loved good food, family bike rides, and finding joy in simple moments. Ross was especially proud of his Delta Diamond status and delighted in sharing the experience of airport lounges and first-class upgrades with others. More than anything, he would say that his greatest goal was simple: to make his wife and his children happy.
A Living Legacy Huddle will be held on March 8, 2026, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Stormbreaker Brewing in St. Johns, Oregon. For friends and community members who have expressed a desire to support the family, information about a GoFundMe can be found online.
Ross lives on in every long walk, every perfectly cooked steak, and every Sunday spent cheering on the Lions — no matter how the game ends.
