David Lee Parker, of Easley, SC, passed away at his home on Monday, August 21, 2023. He was born on
May 1, 1956, in Elkin, NC, to the late Robert Walter Parker, Jr. and Betty Jean Parker.
David was a faithful man who loved God and his family. He steadfastly served in the ministry in many
different capacities for most of his life. Even in his very last days, he continued to make his YouTube
videos, “Through the Bible with Brother David.” He had a deep desire to study and teach the Word of
God.
He loved his family. He provided well for them, not only in a financial sense, but also in deeper ways. He
instilled in them morals and work ethics, and he placed a high value on things of God. He loved to see his
children and hear about everything happening in their lives. His grandchildren always brought a smile to
his face. He took them on motorcycle rides, had meaningful conversations with them, and listened to
their stories.
He never shied away from hard work. He woke up early every morning and got right to work: “Real men
don’t sleep past the sunrise”. He rarely missed a day of work. He constructed an addition while sick with
the flu, repaired busted pipes at night during the middle of winter. Even after his ALS diagnosis he was
hanging sheetrock overhead by himself. He didn’t usually wear a coat on the cold mornings, preferring
instead to “get the manual heater going”- a sanding pole. One time his sheetrock business started to
slow down, so he studied late at night to get his Unlimited Builder’s License and started building houses.
He still found time for coaching Little League, taking his kids to the park, truck rides, hiking, camping,
and family vacations. But he also refused to work or talk business on a Sunday.
He was a strong man- physically for most of his life, but also mentally and emotionally. He wasn’t afraid
to do the difficult things in life, whether that be a manual task or a hard conversation. He overcame
many obstacles in life. He faced his illness with grace. He kept saying “If the Lord lets me get out of this
wheelchair, I’ll come take care of y’all instead”. He didn’t become bitter, no matter how easy that would
have been. Instead, he relied on God’s grace and accepted each new challenge that came along.
He was honest and straightforward. He kept to his word; if he told you something, you knew he would
stick to it. He was genuine.
He was an intelligent man. He had a wide range of knowledge on many topics. He liked to read about
history and visit battlefields. He taught school, Bible college classes, and teenage boys Sunday School
classes for over 40 years.
He loved being outside, especially if he was moving. He loved to ride motorcycles and bicycles. A typical
Saturday for him, when he was able, was to go on church visitation in the morning, then drive up to the
mountains to ride his dirt bike. Of course, he’d stop for a hamburger or hot dog on the way. He often
rode with his motorcycle buddies. He even competed in several Enduro races. He also loved to kayak
and could do the kayak roll. He enjoyed shooting guns on the shooting range he set up. He practiced to
shoot his revolver as good with his left hand as with his right.
David’s testimony and character will never be forgotten. He is survived by his wife, Lisa Parker; a sister,
Rebecca Jolly (Gary), two brothers, Steve Parker (Darla), and Noel Parker (Susan); six children, Benjamin
Parker (Sharon), Matthew Parker (Crystal), Sarah Butner (Aaron), Mary McBryar (Josh), Rachel Sexton
(Scott), and Ruth Parker; ten grandchildren, Collin, Colby, Jada, Ethan, Hannah, Hailey, David, Addison,
Millie, and Slade. He was also glad to play a part in the lives of Lisa’s children, Andrea Garber, Melissa
Collins, Buddy Himes, and Jacqueline James; as well as her many grandchildren. He was particularly close
to Jaqueline’s children, Bryson, Adelyn, and Gideon.
David will be missed by all who knew him. We sorrow, but not as those who have no hope. He is at
home with his Savior now, reunited with his son Mark. He ran his race well.
