David Pergl, age 63, of Mahnomen, MN, died on Saturday, November 4, 2023, at the Mahnomen Health Center Nursing Home.
David Alan Pergl was born on September 21, 1960, in Detroit Lakes, MN, the son of James and Delora (Wille) Pergl. He grew up East of Mahnomen on the farm and attended school in Mahnomen. Following high school, Dave entered the workforce. Together with RoxAnne Deitz, they welcomed a daughter, Shawna.
Dave worked as a meat cutter at Walt's Jack and Jill for a time before being employed by Finke's Sanitation for several years. Dave met Janice Antell and his family grew in size and they made their home together in Mahnomen. Dave and Janice were able to spend 30+ wonderful years together. He later worked at the Shooting Star Casino in Mahnomen as a slot attendant. Due to his failing health Dave was forced to take an early retirement and after a debilitating stroke, he has made his home at the nursing home since.
Dave will be remembered for his infectious laugh and the tendency to be heard before being seen. He had a great big heart and was always putting others' wellbeing before his own. Dave also had a great sense of humor and was known to be a jokester and liked to tease family and friends alike. He enjoyed a cold beverage, working at the casino where he could shoot the breeze with staff and patrons and in more recent years, hearing about his grandkid's activities.
Dave is survived by his daughter, Shawna (Nicholas) Geray and their two children, Kylie and Ethan, all of Winger, MN; significant other, Janice Antell and her children and grandchildren: Shelly and her children, Divinity and Rylee, Andrea and Jordan, all whom he acknowledged like his own, in addition to nieces, nephews and extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Janice; and four brothers: James Jr., Kenny, Steve and Jack.
Blessed be the memory of David Pergl.
Memorial Services will be held on Thursday, November 9, 2023, at 2 pm at the Anderson Family Funeral Home in Mahnomen.
