David Pernie Obituary

David Pernie
April 18, 1943 - October 5, 2022
Rock Hill, South Carolina - David Gilbert Pernie, 79, passed away Wednesday, October 5, 2022 at his home surrounded by family.
Funeral service will be Saturday, October 8, 2022 at 4:00 pm at Cornerstone United Methodist Church, 2697 Heckle Boulevard, Rock Hill, SC. Burial will follow at 5:30 pm at Good Shepard United Methodist Church Cemetery, 14701 Thomas Road, Charlotte, NC. Visitation with family and friends will be Friday, October 7, 2022 from 5:00 to 6:30 pm at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, 2133 Ebenezer Road, Rock Hill, SC.
David was born in Ossineke, Michigan on April 18, 1943 to the late Harold Eugene Pernie and the late Jeanette Lince Pernie. He was also preceded in death by siblings, Paul Pernie, Eugene Pernie, Ann Pernie Forrester, and Helen Pernie Phillips.
David served in the US Air Force from 1966 -1970 and loved serving his country. He also loved hunting, fishing and many other sports. He was a successful left-handed,self-taught, pitcher and tried out for the Detroit Tigers. However, due to a shoulder injury, his baseball career was cut short. He loved History and telling stories about his many traveling adventures, although you could only believe half of what he said because of his great sense of humor. David was a very loving father and grandfather, and a man of character and goodwill to all of those around him. He loved to tell jokes and stories but would also listen and learn about other people's lives. He served the Lord and enjoyed using his talents in the church choir, and looked for many opportunities to serve, as David had a "gift for service". David was so proud of his entire family and specifically loved to share the successes of each of them. He was surrounded by them and fought bravely until God called him home. He will be dearly missed, but his legacy will be carried on through generations to come.
David was survived by his wife of 45 years, Judy Wise Pernie of Rock Hill; four sons, Robert and wife Tamie of Sherman, Texas, Scott of Oscoda, Michigan, David II and his wife Tina of Plantation, Florida, Senior Master Sergeant Matthew and wife Jessica of Lugoff, SC; seven grandchildren, Chandler Zink, Lauren Pernie Ward, Jackson, Zachary, Sean, Joshua, and Madison Pernie; one great-grandchild, Rae Lynn Ward; one sister, Ruth Ellen Pernie Lancewicz of Alpena, Michigan; two sisters-in-law, Rosemary Pernie and Debbie Pernie both of Alpena, Michigan.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cornerstone UMC, 2697 Heckle Blvd., Rock Hill, SC 29732 or hospice of Lancaster SC, 901 West Meeting Street, Suite #104 Lancaster, SC 29720.

I will miss his sense of humor. He was incredibly kind. He loved his bride Judy, his sons, and his furr baby Sandy. He could make anyone smile. His family will have the best guardian angel EVER watching down over his family. Until they are together again.

He had the best sense of humor and never failed to make you laugh. I was so fortunate to meet him. He was a Godly man who loved his bride Judy, and all four of his sons. I will never forget David and Judy's kindness to me. His soul was a bright light, and it will continue to shine on Judy, his sons, and his best furr baby ever Sandy. His family are blessed to have him as their guardian angel, till you all meet again.
