David Powell Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Newbaker Funeral Home - Blairstown on Oct. 1, 2025.
David Jeffrey Powell, 69, of Columbia, NJ, passed away on August 6, 2025, after a courageous battle with Multiple Sclerosis.
Born on May 15, 1956, in Morristown, NJ, David was the beloved son of Ronald and Constance "Connie" (Carl) Powell. He worked for many years as an insurance adjuster for Prudential, where he was respected for his dedication and professionalism.
Outside of work, David had a wide range of interests that reflected his curious and thoughtful nature. He loved music, fishing, and birdwatching. A talented photographer, David had an eye for capturing the quiet beauty in God's creation. He also loved getting lost in the pages of a good book, especially science fiction thrillers that matched his sharp mind and vivid imagination. A lifelong sports enthusiast, David loyally rooted for the San Francisco 49ers and the New York Knicks. He also never passed up a good movie and was known among friends for his wit and ability to "stir the pot" in the most entertaining ways.
David was a regular attender of the "boys club", a men's group from his church that met bi- weekly for coffee and conversation. He appreciated the different men over the years that went out of their way to provide friendship and transportation to boys club and the monthly men's breakfast.
David's commitment to church, Bible study, and the men's groups year after year served as a quiet, yet strong testimony of his persevering faith and belief in Jesus Christ.
David is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Kay, and their children: Joshua (Candace), Jeffrey, Aaron (Heather), and Rebekah Ryan (Francis). He was a proud 'Pop Pop' to Audriana, Eli, Vera, Rhett, Lucas, and Mac. He is also survived by his parents, Ronald and Connie Powell; his siblings, Shawn (Phyllis), Lisa Nesbitt (Kevin), Scott (Linda), and Julye Tydryszewski (Mark); and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. He was predeceased by his cherished and firstborn grandson, Elijah.
A memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, August 23, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Mount Bethel Church, 1270 Belvidere Corner Road, Mount Bethel, PA and the celebration of life service will be held at 12:00 PM. Food and fellowship will follow.
In lieu of flowers please, consider donations to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Compassionate International, Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, Market Street Mission, CURE International, or the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
