David Powell Obituary
Born March 8, 1949, in Lawrence County, he was the son of George Robert "Bob" and Imogene (Barlow) Powell. He married JoAnn Duggins on June 14, 1969, and she preceded him in death May 12, 2006.
David graduated from Mitchell High School in 1967 and was also a graduate of Purdue University. Following college, he owned and operated his own garage: Dave's Auto Repair Center. He worked as an Engineer at Lehigh Portland Cement Company from 1979 until retirement in 2007. After retirement, he did design work and consulting for E&R Fabricating. David was a faithful member and deacon of Liberty Baptist Church.
Surviving are his son, Robert Powell and wife, Stephanie, of Loogootee; daughter, Shannon Elliott and husband, Ryan, of Clayton; grandchildren, Christina (Cory) Rayhill, Ashleigh (Ethan) Smith, Annalise Powell, Andrew (Sara) Powell, Morgan Elliott, and Evan Elliott; great-grandchildren, Hudson, Dominic, and Violet Rayhill; and brothers, Michael Powell and Darryl (Molly) Powell.
His parents; wife; and brother, Barry Powell, preceded him in death.
Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 3, at Liberty Baptist Church with Reverend Don McNabb officiating. Burial will follow at Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Monday, February 2 at Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center and from 10:00 a.m. until the service on Tuesday at Liberty Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers and gifts, the family is requesting donations be made to Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery Fund: Liberty Baptist Church, c/o Sharon Cheatham, 8794 N. County Road 550W, Orleans, IN 47452
