David Edward Pratt, 94, passed away peacefully on November 6, 2025, surrounded by the love of his devoted wife of 71 years, Beverly, and their family.
Born in Bangor, Maine, on March 25, 1931, David grew up in Madison, Maine, where his lifelong love of music began when he picked up the clarinet at age 11. After graduating from high school, he proudly served his country for nine years in the United States Air Force Band during the Korean War, sharing his musical talent around the world.
Following his military service, David returned to Bangor, where he worked as a dedicated letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service until his retirement – through rain, snow, sleet, and hail!
Music was the rhythm of Dave’s life. He performed with the Bangor Band, Bartow Band, and Old Crow Band, as well as at countless community gatherings, church services, and family events. After retirement, his musical curiosity and talent expanded well beyond the clarinet — he picked up nearly every wind instrument, from the bass clarinet to the saxophone — continuing to learn, play, and share his gift with joy. His instruments were never far from reach, and he was happiest when playing, listening, or sharing music with others.
A man of faith, David was a longtime member of Grace United Methodist Church in Bangor, where he lent his voice to the choir and served in many ways. He and Beverly also shared decades of joyful summers at Empire Grove, a community that became their second family. There, David was known for his steady service, humor, and spontaneous porch concerts under the pines.
David’s passions extended beyond music — he loved woodworking, coaching youth, and a good cribbage game (especially if pie was involved). He was quick to lend a hand, to laugh, and to make others feel seen.
David is survived by his beloved wife, Beverly Pratt; daughter Cathy Pratt Burns and her husband Ty; and granddaughters Alexis and Zi, all of whom brought him immeasurable joy. His greatest pride and lasting legacy is the family he loved so deeply and who will carry his spirit forward with service, gratitude, and love.
He will be interred at Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery in the summer of 2026, with a celebration of life to follow at Empire Grove in East Poland, Maine — his favorite place on earth.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Empire Grove Camp Meeting Association c/o Shana D. Qualey, 6 Hannarin Drive, Standish, Maine 04084 in celebration of David’s lifelong love of music and his belief in its power to bring people together.
David will be remembered for his music, his humor, and the service he gave so freely. His was, truly, a life well lived.
