David Quammen Obituary

David B. Quammen, 81-year-old resident of Apple Valley, MN, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 19, 2023, at his home.

A memorial worship service will be on Friday, January 5, 2024, at the Shelley Funeral Chapel in Little Falls, MN, at 2:00 P.M., with Pastor Tony Romaine officiating. Visitation will be from 12:00-2:00 P.M. on Friday at the Shelley Funeral Chapel in Little Falls. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the family. Caring for Dave and his family is the Shelley Funeral Chapel of Little Falls.

David Bruce Quammen was born on July 11, 1942 in Chippewa Falls, WI to the late Clarence and Dorothy (Goetz) Quammen. The family resided in Chippewa Falls where he graduated high school in 1960. He served in the United States Army in the ASA stationed in Bad Aibling, Germany. Later he attended the Minnesota School of Business. Upon graduation, Dave worked at Scientific Computers. This led to his career at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota, where he was the Data Center Manager for over 33 years. On August 20, 1966, Dave married the love of his life Barbara Jean Beebe at the First Methodist Church of Little Falls. The family resided in Eagan until they moved to Apple Valley where they made their permanent home. The birth of their daughter brought them immense love and joy. She is their Angel. Heather surrounded David with the same physical, emotional, and spiritual support that he instilled in and continually provided to his beloved family. He was a wonderful, caring, and devoted Husband and Dad. David was fiercely loyal to his family and friends. He was a true caregiver at heart, which inspired everyone. He cared for his entire family physically as well as emotionally and spiritually. He cherished every moment with his family. Everyone he knew benefitted from his calm demeanor, strength, empathy, advice, and support. He loved playing baseball, softball, and tennis. He enjoyed watching sports, including the Twins, Packers, Wild, Timberwolves, and Gophers. David had a wonderful sense of humor. He brought joy to everyone he met. David enjoyed reading, movies, and music. He enjoyed entertaining with his Wife and Daughter and helping them with their various home projects. On Tuesday, December 19, 2023, surrounded by and in the arms of his loving Daughter, David was peacefully called home. He will be deeply missed, forever remembered, and forever loved.

David is survived by his beloved daughter, Heather of Apple Valley, MN; loving brother, Gary Quammen and his wife, Linda of Chippewa Falls, WI; Barbara's aunt, Yvonne Beebe of Nisswa, MN and many loving cousins.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of over 53 years, Barbara Jean Quammen; parents, Clarence and Dorothy Quammen; in-laws, Clifford and Imogene (Leslie) Beebe; uncles, Robert Goetz, Albert Goetz, Leonard Goetz, Harold Quammen, Rohl Quammen, Lawrence Quammen and Gordon Quammen; aunts, Matilda Aspen, Myrtle Krueger, Esther Korb, Evelyn Campion and Margaret Quammen.
