David Randall, 61, of Gettysburg, passed away Sunday, April 27, 2025, at Avera Missouri River Health Center, Gettysburg, SD.
Memorial services will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 17, 2025, at the United Methodist Church, Gettysburg, with Pastor Laura Cook presiding. Burial will be 1:00 p.m., Sunday, May 18, 2025, at Prairie City Cemetery with Pastor Brad Burkhalter presiding.
David Kenneth Randall was born November 11, 1963, in Lemmon, SD. He was the second oldest son of Judy (Woodbury) and Kenneth Randall Jr. He has three brothers, Paul, Phil, Steve, and one sister, Marcia. Dave spent the first 18 years of his life growing up on the family farm and ranch, eight miles south of Prairie City, SD. He grew up playing and working on the farm with his mom, dad, siblings, and two cousins, Dean and Glenn. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and skiing with his siblings. He also had an off-road motorcycle and fixed up an older Chevelle for driving to high school. He raised bum lambs and calves to make some money, and in his teen years he made some extra money working on the farm for his Grandma Mary during summer break. He attended the Wesleyan Church in Prairie City regularly during his growing up years, and he also attended a number of youth camps over the years.
Dave graduated from Bison High School in 1982. He enjoyed playing football and basketball for the Bison Cardinals. He went on to attend Central Christian College in Mcpherson, KS where he graduated with a two-year degree in Automotive Technology. He received additional automotive training at vo-tech in Rapid City, SD and worked for the Pepsi Company.
Dave eventually settled down in Gettysburg, SD, where he began working for Nagel Motors a few miles west of town. There he acquired experience working on vehicles and farm machinery. When Nagel Motors closed their business, Dave found employment at the John Deere dealership in Gettysburg in 2006, where he spent the rest of his working career. He was a Master Certified Tech and won the Chrysler Gold Tool Award several times.
Dave made many great friends during his time in Gettysburg. He enjoyed working, hunting, fishing, golfing and bowling with these dear friends. He was especially active in bowling and won several league championships in Gettysburg. His team of five, including Bill Fischer, Tim Luken, Randy Tennant, and Ray Beckler, bowled Nationals in Reno, NV and Baton Rouge, LA.
One time Dave was selected to be on Grand Jury, and it was a very interesting experience for him.
A number of times per year he would travel back to the farm to visit family or help his dad out. Several of Dave's nieces and nephews enjoyed his company when he visited Rapid City or the farm. When his father moved away from the farm in 2018, Dave started spending most holidays with his brother, Steve, and nephew, Caleb, in Rapid City.
Dave is survived by his brothers, Paul (Johanna), Phil (Betty), and Steve; sister, Marcia; uncle, Mike (Natalia); aunt, Nena Woodbury; 15 nieces and nephews; and eight grand nieces and nephews around the US and Canada.
Dave was preceded in death by his parents, Ken and Judy; brother-in-law, Jerry Yeik; aunts and uncles: Tessie Randall, Norman "Skip" Woodbury, Joann and Claire Smith, and Don and Eva Quatier.
Memorials may be directed to David Randall Country Club Memorial, c/o Bill Fischer, 407 S Potter, Gettysburg, SD 57442.
