David Scott Reynolds, Sr., age 69, departed this world suddenly and went home to be with his Lord and Savior on March 20, 2024.
David was born in Durham, North Carolina on May 19, 1954, to Elliot and Marjorie Reynolds. From an early age, David was curious about the world around him and fascinated with figuring out how things work mechanically. He earned the rank of Eagle Scout, gaining practical life skills and embodying the values of honor, integrity, and service to others. David's skillful resourcefulness extended into his professional career in engineering and, later, facilities management.
From the time of his youth, David loved music and even played in his high school band. He particularly enjoyed the jazz-rock instrumental style of the band Chicago, which often played as he worked on projects around the house. His children fondly remember waking to the sound of his singing--the fact that David couldn't carry a tune never stopped him from trying.
David's most cherished roles were those of husband, father, and grandfather. He and his beloved wife Tana built a life together centered around family, faith, and service to others. They were blessed to celebrate 48 years of marriage on March 19, just one day before his unexpected passing. The other loves of David's life were his children and grandchildren. If they were playing a sport or in a school performance, David made sure to be there. He and Tana loved to travel, and they treasured their special vacations with their grandkids each year.
David was a true servant leader who was always available with a listening ear, a helping hand, and sensible advice. His impact on the lives of others was immeasurable, with many remembering him as not only a thoughtful friend but also as a role model and father figure.
David leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion, survived by his wife of 48 years, Tana Reynolds, their son David Scott (Dana) Reynolds Jr., and their daughter Kristin (Justin) Loy. He is also survived by his precious grandchildren, Garrett Reynolds, Addisyn Loy, and Nathan Loy.
David was predeceased by his parents, Elliot and Marjorie Reynolds, and by his brother, Elliot (Rennie) Reynolds Jr.
A memorial service to celebrate David's life will be held on Friday, March 29 at Clements Funeral Home, 1105 Broad Street, Durham, NC.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hand of Hope in Fuquay Varina, in honor of David's lifelong commitment to serving others.
The family is being assisted by Clements Funeral & Cremation Services, Inc. in Durham. Online condolences may be sent to www.clementsfuneralservice.com.
