David P. Rivera, Sr.

Spirit Name "Gitchi Binesii" – Great Thunderbird

David Peter Rivera, Sr., 67, passed away peacefully on August 12, 2025. He grew up in Rochester, NY, and throughout his life also lived in Minneapolis, MN; Sahuarita, AZ; and Atlanta, GA. He was a beloved son, father, abuelo, brother, uncle, and friend.

Born Feb. 10, 1958, to Lorraine General and Esteban Rivera, David lived a life rooted in family, service, and community. Beginning in the mailroom at General Mills, he went on to a successful career in the casino industry, rising to head of security and becoming a sought-after consultant. He enjoyed working out, good food, sports (Celtics & Vikings), dogs, and-most of all-time with friends and family.

David was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents Lillian & Tremaine General, Sr. He is survived by his children Shannon, Melissa (Monica), Peter, Shiloh, Amanda, and David Jr.; siblings Ramona, Loretta, Joy, Michael (Aliyah), Stephen, Matilda "Tish" (Robert), and Sandra; special friend Dynell; and many grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends.

A viewing will be held FRIDAY, August 22, 2025, from 4–7 p.m., and a Funeral Service SATURDAY August 23, 2025, from 10 a.m.–12 p.m. at Miller Funeral & Cremation Services, Inc., 3325 Winton Rd. S., Rochester, NY. CLICK HERE for a map to the funeral home.

A procession will follow to Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
