David Alan Rodgers passed away on January 20, 2026, at his home in
Elizabeth City, NC, surrounded by the life and love he created there. He was the embodiment of loyalty, service, and kindness, traits he valued as a proud veteran and retired businessman.
David is survived by his beloved wife of 35 years, Brenda Hudson Rodgers; a son, Adam Rodgers; a daughter, Rachel Rodgers; and a grandson, Beau Allan Rodgers, all of
Elizabeth City, NC. He also leaves behind his brother, Mark Rodgers. David was preceded in death by his parents, Martin F. Rodgers, Jr., and Virginia Lee Rodgers, as well as two brothers, Ricky Rodgers and Steve Rodgers.
David was born and raised in
Greenville, SC, on July 26, 1958. As a young man, David enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, spending much of his active-duty service in Japan, working as a Motor Vehicle Operator (MOS 3531). The military shaped much of his adult life and the core values embodied in service, providing the foundation for a strong sense of discipline, integrity, and devotion to others. As a veteran, David became a dedicated member of the American Legion Post 223 in
Elizabeth City, NC, furthering his lifelong commitment to service and community.
After leaving military service, David went on to attend the University of South Carolina in Columbia as a proud Gamecock, obtaining his bachelor's degree in business. He worked for many years in various aspects of the business sector, including hotel and property management, and automotive sales, including River's Edge Motors in
Camden, NC, which he owned and operated with his wife, Brenda.
David's real calling came later in life, caring for and mentoring children and young adults with disabilities, with All Ways Caring in
Elizabeth City, NC. This was not merely a job for David; it was a purpose. He poured his heart into supporting, encouraging, and advocating for others for as long as his health allowed, leaving behind a lasting impact on countless lives.
David embraced life fully and joyfully, with an unshakable optimism and a variety of interests. He found happiness in piloting, whether being on the water or the road. David loved history, relished watching old westerns, reading Tom Clancy novels, and golfing. His happy place was in the mountains. David enjoyed cooking, and treated food as an expression of love and affection. Those who knew David remember him as an outstanding storyteller, with a wonderfully dry sense of humor, and with his favorite stories centering on his family, especially the adventures with his brothers and lessons from his grandparents.
Above all, his greatest priority and profoundest achievement was his family. David loved them deeply and selflessly, always willing to sacrifice to ensure those he treasured never went without. He was a faithful and loving husband, a proud and present father, an adoring grandfather, and a steady presence to many who came to see him as family. To know David was to know warmth, laughter, and unwavering support. His bright spirit, generous heart, and infectious laughter will forever be etched in the stories shared, the lives he touched, and the family he cherished so deeply. His legacy stands as a testament to compassion, service, and love; a legacy that will endure the test of time.
No services are planned at this time.
