David Allen Rydell, 84 of Lapeer, formerly of Southfield, passed away November 15, 2022, in the comforts of home. He was born July 13, 1938, to Elmer Carl Rydell and Beda Carolina (Ryden) in Detroit. David grew up in both Detroit and Southfield before moving to Lapeer in 2002. He worked in the automotive industry and retired from Chrysler Corporation after many years of service completing his work while located on the Shows & Exhibits Department at the headquarters.
A car guy to the core he could have up to six cars at one time. Many would have seen him cruising the streets in any number of his wonderful show cars. He was especially appreciative of the friendship of Jim Hall and Larry Lutz.
David is survived by sibling Carla (Grant) Taylor of Louisville, KY; children Michael (Karen) Rydell of Lapeer, Timothy (Michelle) Rydell of Los Gatos, CA, and Jennifer Rydell of Chattanooga, TN; several nieces and nephews in Michigan, Minnesota, Kentucky and Florida.
David was preceded in death by his aforementioned parents; his wife of 53 years, Susan Hurley (Carlisle) Rydell; brother Dennis Rydell; sisters Irene Kamunen, Doris Strand, and Evelyn Carkeek.
Dave was a lover of dogs so please consider making a donation in his honor to Paradise Animal Rescue, 2266 N. Lapeer Rd., Lapeer, MI 48446.
Arrangements for cremation have been entrusted to Lynch & Sons Funeral Directors - Capstick Chapel in Lapeer. In keeping with David's wishes no services will be held. An inurnment at Holy Sepulchre, Southfield, MI will be determined at a later date.
