William Hawley Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Lynch & Sons Funeral Directors - Lapeer on Jan. 8, 2026.
William H. Hawley, age 94, of Lapeer, passed away peacefully on January 5, 2026, in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on May 7, 1931, in Onaway, Michigan, to Howard and Mary Hawley.
William proudly and loyally served his country in the United States Army. On May 28, 1950, he married the love of his life, Joan June, and together they raised four children.
For 25 years, William worked as a truck driver, traveling throughout the country. He was truly "the greatest man there ever was" to those who knew him...a jack of all trades, skilled woodworker, mechanic, and master tinkerer who could fix just about anything. He loved hunting and excelled at it, and in the 1960s he enjoyed racing stock cars.
William was a devoted husband, loving father, and cherished grandfather to many. He had a heart of gold and leaves behind a legacy of hard work, kindness, and love. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
William is survived by his four children, daughters Janet (Matt) Kardos of Mt. Morris, Jacqueline (Ken) Sevener of Davison, Sherry (Ed) McIntyre of Lapeer; son William (Kelly) Hawley Jr. of Oak Ridge, TN; 22 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; 16 great-great-grandchildren; sister Mabel Starkey; sisters-in-law Joyce Parker and Georgia (Harold) Heinbuck.
William was preceded in death by his wife Joan Hawley in 2022; his parents Howard and Mary Hawley; granddaughter Lauren Shoens, grandson Timothy Faust, and 7 siblings.
Friends may visit on Friday, January 9, from 4-8 p.m. at Lynch & Sons Funeral Directors - Capstick Chapel in Lapeer. A funeral service will be held at Lynch & Sons on Saturday, January 10, at 11 a.m. Petey Woodall will officiate. William will be laid to rest at Flint Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
