David Santangelo Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Davis-Becker Funeral Home - Boardman on Mar. 16, 2026.
David W. Santangelo, 57, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on March 11, 2026.

He was born on March 13, 1968 in Youngstown, a son to Sallie E. (Mitchell) and the late Victor Santangelo Sr..

David earned his bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice from Youngstown State University in 1991 and went on to spend 27 years serving with the Youngstown Police Department. His career in law enforcement was one he took seriously and with pride, dedicating nearly three decades to protecting and serving his community before retiring on October 2, 2020.

When he wasn't working, David gravitated toward the outdoors. He enjoyed fishing and hunting-whether it was deer, rabbit, squirrel, or the occasional groundhog-and appreciated the quiet time that came with it. He also had a spontaneous spirit and was always up for a road trip. In his free time, he enjoyed following hockey, bowling in a league, and getting out on the golf course, often sharing those moments with friends and family.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his beloved wife, the former Susan Kellerman, whom he married November 11, 2009; his son, David Santangelo; mother, Sallie Santangelo; brother, Michael (Gail) Santangelo; along with several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Victor Santangelo Sr.; and his brother, Victor Santangelo Jr.

Per David's wishes, there will be no calling hours or services.

The family would like to extend their deep appreciation and thanks to their family, friends, and neighbors along with Patriot Home Health & Patriot Hospice, (especially Jason & Heidi), for their compassionate care of David in his time of need.
