Eugene L. Wright

Youngstown - Eugene L. Wright, 76, of Youngstown, passed away on Thursday, March 12, 2026, at the Hospice of the Valley – Hospice House.

Eugene was born on September 18, 1949, in Youngstown, Ohio, the son of Robert and Mary (Straus) Wright.

Gene was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School, Class of 1969. He spent many years working in housekeeping at South Side Hospital.

On October 26, 1974, Eugene married the love of his life, the former Valerie Probert. Together they shared 51 years of marriage, building a life centered around family and the simple joys they enjoyed together.

Gene loved spending time fishing at Hamilton, Pine, Evans, and Pymatuning Lakes. Pymatuning was also a special place for family vacations over the years, creating many cherished memories. He also enjoyed going to the flea market, where he could often be found socializing with friends and enjoying the lively atmosphere. Above all, he treasured time with his family and was especially proud of his role as "Grandpa."

He is survived by his beloved wife, Valerie Wright, of Youngstown ; his sons, David (Mitch Deffenbaugh) Wright, and Matthew ( Natalie) Wright ; his mother, Mary Wright of Boardman; his grandson, Kameron Wright; his sister, Cynthia (Louis) Grieco, of Boardman; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Eugene was preceded in death by his father, Robert Wright; his brothers, Charles Wright, Richard Wright, David Wright, and Robert Wright; and his sisters, Darlene Wright, Evelyn Ploughman, and Betty Jane Fuller

Friends and family will be received on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. until the time of service at 7:00 p.m. at the Davis-Becker Funeral Home, 8536 Market St., Boardman, Ohio 44512.

He will be laid to rest at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
