John E. Simcox

Columbiana - John E. Simcox, 89, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

John was born April 3, 1936, in Struthers, Ohio, a son of the late Francis G. and Dorothy M. (Northall) Simcox.

He graduated from Springfield Local High School in 1954. In 1959, John joined the U.S. Army and served for seven years, including a deployment to Germany.

John worked as a heavy equipment mechanic and operator for several companies and retired from Operating Engineers Local 66 in 1998.

He was a member of Allen Lodge #276 F. & A..M. in Columbiana.

In the 1960s, John was well known at Canfield and Sharon Speedways where he raced stock cars alongside his two brothers. He was also an avid bowler and golfer. After retirement, John enjoyed restoring vintage cars for himself and friends and loved attending local car cruises.

John is survived by his wife, the former Sarah L. Davis; three daughters, Debbie Bable of Boardman, Denise (Robert Ellis) Simcox of Tallmadge, Ohio, and Christine (Al) Breinz of Leetonia, Ohio; four grandchildren, Sarah (Jon) Borosky of New Springfield, Ohio, Rachel Bable of Ellwood City, Pennsylvania, Alec Breinz of Columbiana, Ohio, and Alexis (Tanner) Breinz-Irwin of Eagle River, Alaska; three great-grandchildren, Mason, Brennen, and Hayden; a brother, Bill (Sue) Simcox of New Middletown; a sister, Dorothy Lodwick of Leesburg, Florida; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, John was preceded in death by a brother, Arthur Simcox.

Friends and family may call Monday, March 16, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. at Davis-Becker Funeral Home, 8536 Market Street, Boardman. A funeral service will follow at 12:00 noon at the funeral home with Rev. Aimee Raymond officiating. Full military honors will be conducted by the U.S. Army and Ellsworth V.F.W. Post #9571. Interment will take place at Crest Haven Memorial Gardens in New Waterford, Ohio.
