Clinton
Mr. David Emile Schaeffer, 88, of Clinton, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, September 25, 2025 at his home.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, September 29, 2025 at Grandview Memorial Park with Reverend Andy Wood officiating.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 – 1:30 PM on Monday, September 29, 2025 at Butler Funeral Home in Roseboro prior to the service.
Mr. Schaeffer was born in Washington, DC, the son of William W. Schaeffer and Elizabeth Harris Schaeffer. He grew up in Baltimore, Maryland and lived many years in Arnold, Maryland so that he could be close to the Chesapeake Bay, where he loved to fish and enjoyed steamed Maryland Blue Crabs. His first career was working at Bethlehem Steel and then at Maryland Ship building and drydock. He moved to Clinton, North Carolina in 1978 and had no problem transitioning to the southern living and enjoyed that just as much as living on the water. He also served in the Army for 6 years. He was always a big strong man with a big heart and loved loved people and conversation, and he never met a stranger. He was a loving step-father, and he was loved by many, and always kept everyone laughing.
David was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Nola Brewington Schaeffer; a grandson, Adam David Brewington; and a son-in-law, Oscar Wade Simmons.
He is survived by a son, Robert Brewington and wife Jennifer; a daughter, Teresa Simmons; three grandchildren, Lindsay Brewington, Lisa Smith, and Austin Simmons; seven great-grandchildren, Jacob Simmons, Cody Simmons, Kaylee Simmons, Taytin Simmons, Saydee Simmons, Logan Smith Wright, and Channing Smith; a special niece, Barbara Bornheim; and many other nieces and nephews.
