Born on March 8, 1922, in Kulptown, PA, she was the daughter of the late Raymond Kohl and Mabel Kohl.
Laura worked at AT&T Technologies as an etcher until retirement. She volunteered at the gift shop at Saint Joseph's Hospital on 12th St. in Reading. She was in a bowling league at Bowl-A-Rama for many years.
She is survived by her daughter, Linda L. Matthews, wife of Dennis J. Matthews of Douglassville, PA; seven grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and her cat Susie.
She was predeceased by her loving husband, Leon M. Schaeffer and daughters Luanne and Lois Schaeffer.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 21, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Sanders Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 1501 N. 11th St., Reading.
A viewing will be held 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM prior to the service.
Burial will be at Forest Hills Memorial Park, 390 West Neversink Rd., Reading.
