John H. Kirby III, 82, passed away peacefully late Friday evening, February 13, 2026, at St. Joseph Regional Health Network.

Born on October 18, 1943, in Pottstown, John was the son of the late John Kirby Jr. and the late Arlene (Hunsberger) Kirby. He was a long-time resident of Boyertown and Blandon, where he was well known for his dedication to education and community service. John spent many years as an educator with the Boyertown Area School District before retiring.

Known for his quick wit, dry sense of humor, and unmistakable sarcasm, John was equally remembered for his kindness and willingness to help others. That helpful spirit shone brightly during his time working at Hollenbach's Hardware. He took great pride in painting and home repair projects and was always eager to lend a hand.

John enjoyed good food and fellowship and will be fondly remembered by the staff and patrons of Temple Diner and Chatty's, where he was a familiar and friendly presence.

He was a member of Victor Emmanuel's Dining Club, the National Education Association, the Pennsylvania State Education Association and a faithful member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Reading.

John is survived by his partners, Larry Kummerer and Bruce Bowers. John and Larry celebrated 42 years together this year. He also leaves behind his children, Joshua Kirby and his wife, Jodi, of Carnegie, PA, and Jessica Aranda and her husband, Jaime, of Bloomington, IL; his step-grandchildren, Stephen Aranda, Matt Aranda and his wife, Taylor and his step-great-grandchildren, Owen and Ella Aranda.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, February 19, 2026, at Shalkop, Grace & Strunk Funeral Home, 135 Bridge Street, Spring City, with Deborah Graf officiating. Family and friends may call from 10:00 to 11:00 AM prior to the service at the funeral home.

Online condolences may be shared at www.sgsfuneralhome.com. All arrangements are entrusted to Shalkop, Grace & Strunk Funeral Home, Inc., Spring City, PA.
