David K. Schiman, 85, of Crystal Lake, passed away on January 16, 2026. He was born on October 9, 1940 in Detroit, MI to Gerhard and Madelon Schiman.
David was a proud veteran of the United States Navy, serving his country from 1962 until his honorable discharge.
He very much was involved in his church community at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Crystal Lake, the American Legion where he was the financial officer for 30 years, he used to regularly help with the food pantry PADS in Crystal Lake.
He greatly enjoyed geocaching and Munzees, which are both are GPS based games. In addition to GPS, he loved all gadgets, always having little helicopters or model airplanes around. He built a television as well as a computer for his daughter that she used in high school.
He also enjoyed gardening in the springtime, especially hanging colorful pots of beautiful flowers off his house and in his small backyard garden spaces. He loved woodworking and built clocks and jewelry boxes for a lot of his loved ones.
David will be deeply missed by his children, Michelle Anne Schiman, W. John Schiman and ex-wife Florence Ruth Schiman, his sibling-Marcia Bunnell and brother-in-law John Bunnell, his niece Sherri Beauchamp and nephew Michael Bunnell and their spouses. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorial visitation will be January 28, 2026 at 10:00 am at The Pointe Outreach Center, 5650 Northwest Highway, Crystal Lake, IL 60014. Inurnment will follow at 1:30 PM at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, 20953 W Hoff Rd, Elwood, IL 60421. Please meet at the cemetery.
