David A Scholl
Bay City, MI
David Allan Scholl, beloved husband, father, poppa, and military veteran, unexpectedly took his final ride on May 27th, 2023, at the age of 65, leaving behind a legacy of love, dedication, and resilience. Born on January 20th, 1958, Dave's life was marked by extraordinary experiences and a deep devotion to his family.
Dave's journey began when he was adopted by his late parents, Allan and Evelyn (Matejovic) Scholl, at the tender age of 18 months. As fate would have it, he bit his father on the finger, a unique and endearing way of choosing him as his dad. From that moment on, a special bond was formed that would shape Dave's character and values.
Dave's father was a career Air Force man which allowed them to travel the world. This is also how he developed a resilient spirit and adaptability early on. This was evident as he attended nine different schools during his childhood. Despite the challenges of constantly changing environments, David graduated from Rudyard High School in 1976, showcasing his determination and commitment to his education.
In 1977, Dave followed in his father's footsteps and joined the Army. He fully expected to serve a single 4 year enlistment and get out with GI benefits for college. Instead for over 24 years, he served his country with honor, dedication, and valor. He was a true patriot, embodying the values of service and sacrifice. Dave's unwavering commitment to his fellow soldiers and his nation earned him the respect and admiration of all who served alongside him. His unwavering professionalism and leadership were recognized, and he retired from the Army on December 31st, 2003, leaving behind an exemplary military career.
It was in 1989 that David's path crossed with Tammy, the woman who would forever change his life. Their friendship blossomed over the years, despite the communication barrier that Tammy, who is deaf, faced. Recognizing his desire to truly understand and connect with Tammy, David embarked on a journey to learn sign language. He dedicated an entire year to classes, determined to bridge the gap between them. His dedication was a testament to the depth of his love and his unwavering commitment to Tammy's happiness.
In 1992, David mustered the courage to ask Tammy on their first official date. From that moment on, their love story unfolded with grace and devotion. Their shared experiences, triumphs, and challenges only deepened their connection. David's unwavering love and commitment to Tammy led them to exchange vows in 1998. This year, they were set to celebrate their 25th anniversary, a testament to the enduring love they shared.
As a father and poppa, Dave was a pillar of strength and a constant source of guidance for his five children: Quentin (Nicci) Scholl, Amber (Jason) Cooper, Newton Chapman, Kate (Tori) Chapman, and Caleb (Micah) Chapman and his five grandchildren: Landon Aikens, Liliana Scholl, Laykyn Aikens, Elyse Scholl, Calliope Chapman. Additionally, he leaves behind a loving sister: Linda (Doug) Cartagena-Brown and a brother Toby (Donna) Scholl.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, June 6, 2023 at 11:00am at the Rivertown Funeral Chapel in Kawkawlin with burial at Great Lakes National Cemetery. Dave and I have been friends for years, having served together in the military. Reuniting back in 2014 in the BCRP...he will be sorely missed. As we said in the Army " keep up the fire!"

Dave had a booming laugh a loving heart and he made me feel like a brother. He was my brothers and my Army recruiter. He was... my friend and I loved him dearly. We were a fortunate bunch that he loved. Til we meet again Brother. God rest you and keep you.
