A Literary Tribute to the Life of David John Schwark
October 17, 1941 – November
On November 16, 2025, at the age of 84, David stepped peacefully from this world into the everlasting arms of his Savior. He passed at home in Algonac, Michigan, with his loving wife, Lorrie, holding his hand-the same hand she held through every season of their life together. After facing cancer with courage and grace since March of 2024, David's earthly journey ended exactly as he lived it: with gentleness, gratitude, and quiet, unshakable faith.
A Soul Formed by Faith
David was a devout Lutheran and was proud to share his faith with others.. It shaped his character, his compassion, his resilience, and the way he treated every person with dignity and kindness.
David waited upon the Lord every day of his life. And now, lifted on eagle's wings, he walks in a place where pain is no more.
The Outdoorsman Who Knew God's Creation by Heart
To understand David is to understand the outdoors-because that is where his spirit felt most free.
He was a true outdoorsman, a man who knew the language of the woods and water the way others know books or cities. The sunrise over a still lake was his cathedral. The hush of autumn timber was his sanctuary. The soft lap of waves against his boat, the call of distant birds, the first footprint left in fresh snow-these were the hymns and prayers of his everyday life.
He traveled across the United States in search of trophy whitetails and unforgettable fishing adventures. Not because he sought recognition, but because he sought the quiet beauty and sacred simplicity of nature. His closest fishing companions, Dick and Gerry, were more than buddies; they were brothers in a lifetime of early mornings, long drives, shared stories, and laughter that drifted across rivers, streams and lakes.
David is survived by his loving wife, Lorrie of 54 years and and his two daughters
• Katrina Hill (Richard)
• Annette Renee Paul
Five grandchildren
• Justin Hill (Karista)
• Renee' Hill
• Jonathan Paul
• Jackson Paul
• April Gunckle
David was the kind of grandfather who listened more than he spoke, who encouraged rather than corrected, and who believed his purpose was not to shape his grandchildren into something-but to help them become wholly and beautifully themselves.
A Legacy Rooted in Memory
David's life was built on four simple, powerful pillars:
Faith. Family. Friends. Fun.
He lived all four with sincerity and joy.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Arthur Schwark and Laura Schwark, and by his sister, Diane Schwark, who now welcome him into eternal rest.
Though his earthly absence leaves an aching space, the imprint of his love and character will remain.
A funeral service honoring David's life will be held at:

"Well done, good and faithful servant." - Matthew 25:23
May he rest in the eternal peace of Christ,
renewed in strength, lifted on eagle's wings,
and embraced by the God he trusted all his life.

I knew Dave for decades as my barber at Chuck's Barber shop. When he learned that in addition to being a teacher, I was operating a Salmon fishing charter service in Ludington, he became a client of mine. We became fishing friends and as time went, personal friends as well. When he was considering fishing in Ludington, he would call or come by my home or boat. We also met and fished together in Florida during the winters. In later years, I started fishing with him for Walleyes on the St Clair river. Some of the most fun fishing trips, ever. Usually followed by coffee and breakfast at his favorite local shop. On one trip, he caught a really nice 22" Walleye. I managed to get him let me take a photo. I will miss him and his friendship forever, Tight lines, my friend;
