Michael Batchik Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Lynch & Sons Funeral Home - Walled Lake on Feb. 5, 2026.
Judge Michael "Mike" Batchik departed this life peacefully at home of natural causes on February 3, 2026. Mike's humor, generosity, and unwavering faith touched the lives of all who knew him.

Born on April 26, 1934, in Detroit, Michigan, Mike was the cherished son of Anna and Michael Batchik. His early years were shaped by family, faith, and a love of sports-interests that remained central throughout his life.

Mike played baseball and football for De La Salle High School in Warren before studying chemical engineering at the University of Detroit. It was there he met the love of his life, Constance "Connie" Batchik (1934–2025). They married in the summer of 1956 and shared a vibrant life together, filled with skiing, fishing, golfing, flying small planes, and creating music side by side.

After ten years working as a chemical engineer for the Detroit Foundry and later General Motors, Mike chose to pursue a new path, taking law classes at night. He earned his Juris Doctor from the Detroit College of Law in 1966 and practiced at the firm of Powell, Peres, Carr, Jacques, Batchik & Schmidt from 1966 to 1979, before being appointed by Governor William Milliken to the 52nd District Court in Walled Lake, Michigan. Mike served as Judge of the 52nd District Court from 1979 to 2004.

During his years on the bench, Mike founded the Alternative Service Program at the 52nd District Court in 1986. This innovative program, which continues today, provides a sentencing alternative to jail for nonviolent misdemeanor offenders. Participants work in a Court Community Garden that supplies fresh produce to individuals and families facing hardship in Oakland County. Mike also pioneered the Sobriety Court in 2001 to support offenders battling addiction; since its founding, the program has helped rehabilitate more than 1,700 participants, contributing to a safer and stronger community.

Beyond the courtroom, Mike was deeply involved in community service. He played an active role in the Walled Lake Rotary Club and created a CYO basketball league when he saw his children's school lacked one-renting a local gym so children of all ages could participate. During the Christmas season, he put his private pilot's license to meaningful use through Operation Good Cheer, flying toys and gifts across Michigan to brighten the holidays for children in need. Fully embracing Michigan winters, Mike and Connie enjoyed snowshoeing and skiing as part of the "70 & Up" ski club at Alpine Valley, downhill skiing well into their 80s.

Mike is survived by his children: Michael Batchik (Jodi), Robert Batchik (Mary), Christopher Batchik (Carel), Patrice Tompkins (Douglas), and Michele Parvizi (Mahmoud). He was dearly loved by his grandchildren and great grandchildren: Michael Batchik, Nicole Ribbens, Molly Batchik, Kristin Batchik, Anna Batchik, Christopher Tompkins, Emma Tompkins, Matthew Tompkins, Parviz Parvizi, Oskar Parvizi, Louis Ribbens, Sidney Ribbens, Stella Ribbens, Ruby Ribbens, and Benjamin Batchik.

Mike took immense pride in being a Dad, Grampa, and Great Grampa, always offering guidance, support, and unconditional love. His absence leaves a void that can never be filled, but his memory will forever remain a source of strength and light.

Donations to Mike's favorite charity, the Capuchin Soup Kitchen, are appreciated. https://www.cskdetroit.org/donate/monetary-donations
