Kenneth E. Batchik, age 87, passed away March 23, 2013 in Akron, Ohio.
He was born in Buffalo, Ohio in 1925 to Joseph and Grace Batchik and came to Akron as a child. Ken married Jean Brooks on September 4, 1946 and served in the Navy during WWII and the Korean War. He worked at Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company for 48 years. Ken was assistant head usher at The Chapel in Akron for 30 years and volunteered in the tape ministry for 22 years. He loved the Lord and was always happiest when serving and being with family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Joe and Dale; and sister, Blodwin Armbrust. He is survived by his wife, Jean; sons, Dennis (Kathy) of Scottsdale, AZ, Dan (Debbie) of Uniontown, OH, Timothy (Joyce) of Akron; daughter, Bonnie Holt of Spring Hill, TN; grandchildren, Kelly (Ron) Casto, Christine Batchik, Scott (Jodi), Joseph (Lori), Michael (Stacy), James (Tara) Batchik, Diane (Chad) Boone, Tyler and Cody Holt; great grandchildren, Brandon Golden, Alyssa, Meghan Casto, Madison, Haleigh, Hunter, Logan, Kendal, Kamden, Alex and Ashley Batchik; and many family and friends. A special thanks to The Chapel members, neighbors, and friends for all their support during his illness and the staff at Hospice of Summa for their loving care.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday 11:00 a.m. at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 547 Canton Road, Akron, Ohio 44312 with Pastors Steve Bucy and Jim Mitchell officiating. Entombment to follow at Hillside Memorial Park where Mogadore VFW Post #8487 will conduct military rites. Friends may call 4-8 p.m. Tuesday and from 10 a.m. Wednesday until service time at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials to The Chapel for Camp Carl, 135 Fir Hill, Akron, Ohio 44304.
