Jean Batchik (Brooks), age 97, passed away into the loving arms of her Savior on January 24, 2025.
Jean was born in Sebring, Ohio on September 22, 1927 to Harold and Margaret Brooks. She came to Akron in 1932.
Jean married Kenneth Batchik on September 4, 1946. She taught Sunday School at Margaret Park Church for 37 years and served in other capacities at the church. She sang in the choir at The Chapel in Akron for 30 years, volunteered in food service and decorating the church at Christmas. She sewed and rolled bandages for Workers for Christ, which were sent to Franklin Graham missions for many years. She taught beginner and intermediate piano and organ and was a seamstress, making wedding dresses and alterations and 3,231 dresses for kids in Africa. Jean loved being active and serving the church and her family. She was a member of the YK Rod Club for over 60 years and loved to camp and fish.
She was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth, parents Harold and Margaret Brooks, brothers Carl and Robert Brooks, and sister Pat Learner.
Jean is survived by her sons Dennis (Kathy) of Scottsdale, AZ, Dan (Debbie) of Uniontown, OH, Timothy (Joyce) of Akron, OH; daughter, Bonnie Holt of TN; grandchildren Kelley (Ron) Casto, Christine Batchik, Scott (Anne), Joseph (Lori), Michael (Stacy), and James (Tara) Batchik, Diane (Chad) Boone, Tyler and Cody Holt; great grandchildren Brandon Golden, Alyssa (Cody) Ward, Meghan Casto, Madison, Haleigh, Hunter, Logan, Kendal, Kamden, Alex, and Ashley Batchik; great-great grandchildren Jordyn, Rowynn, and Hudson Ward, Carter and Blake Golden; as well as many extended family members.
Family and friends will be received Saturday, February 1st from 9:30 to 11 am at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 547 Canton Rd. Akron, OH 44312. Funeral service will begin at 11 am with Pastor Mike Castelli officiating. Interment will follow at Hillside Memorial Park. Memorial donations may be made to The Chapel, 135 Fir Hill, Akron, OH 44304 or Grace House, 475 N Howard St. Akron, OH 44310.
