David James Schwulst, 61, of Soda Springs, Idaho passed away on August 20th, 2023, surrounded by his wife and three daughters.
David was born on March 25, 1962, to Russell James Frank Schwulst and Sondra June Schwulst in Fort Belvoir, Virginia. After David graduated from High School in Monte Vista, Colorado, he attended Pueblo Vocational Community College and obtained his certification in Diesel Mechanics. David enlisted in the United States Army Combat Engineers in 1983 where he was both a Bridge Specialist and an Assistant Bridge Section Sergeant, 4th Engineer Battalion. He was honorably discharged in 1988.
David and his high school sweetheart Sheila Farris moved to Kemmerer, Wyoming where they began their family and were married in 1989. His passion for construction began here. David's hard work and skillset quickly led him to become the building supervisor for Luthy Builders and he continued this work for seven years.
In 1995, David, Sheila and their two girls Chelsea and Kendra moved to Soda Springs, ID. This is where David and his father started their own business known as Schwulst Construction. Three years later, David and Sheila welcomed their third daughter, Allyson to their family. David spent the last 28 years doing what he loved. Delivering quality construction work from the ground up, including his exceptional concrete work in our community. He never gave up, he worked hard, and there was nothing that he could not do.
David instilled a strong work ethic, integrity, and outstanding skills in his three daughters, whom he was incredibly proud of. He was also a mentor to several employees throughout his career. David was not only an exceptional worker, but an outstanding husband, father, son, brother, friend to many, and the best "Appy" to his three grandsons. He enjoyed fishing, coin collecting, spending time with his sidekick Miles and watching the Denver Broncos.
He was loved by many. His love for life was unmatched and his greatest strength was making people laugh. David left us way too soon, but his goofy and loving personality will be remembered by all.
David is survived by his loving wife Sheila and their three beautiful daughters, Chelsea Louanne Merrill (Cy Merrill), Kendra Erin Graber (Cade Graber), and Allyson Kaye Schwulst. David has three grandsons, Beau David Merrill, Ridge Danny Merrill and Trayson James Graber. All of which reside in Soda Springs, ID as well.
David is preceded in death by his father, Russell James Frank Schwulst. He is survived by his mother Sondra Schwulst and his two older sisters, Joette Pepper (Kerry Pepper) and Amy Sullivan (Brent Sullivan). Two nieces (Kyla Pepper, Katelyn Vankeuren) and three nephews (Cole Pepper, Kyle Sullivan, Kalan Sullivan).
Services will be held at a later date.
