David Scott Obituary

Visit the Salerno’s Funeral Home-Rosedale Chapel - Roselle website to view the full obituary.

David “Dave” John Scott was born in Leon, Iowa, on July 3, 1945, spending his early years on his family’s farm. When Dave was in middle school, his father got a job in the Chicago area, when the family moved to Northlake. He was a gifted gymnast—especially in still rings and parallel bar events—competing for Leyden High School and graduating in 1964. Also, that same year, he met his first wife Elaine Wilke at a dance and they married soon after in 1965.

In 1966, Dave joined the U.S. Navy reserve, but because of lung issues, he wasn’t able to serve in Vietnam, so he was a medical corpsman stationed in San Diego, helping to care for Navy seaman injured during the war.

After being stationed for a year in South Carolina, Dave and Elaine moved back to Illinois. They lived in Lombard and had their first child, Cinnamon, in 1971, and then their son, Christopher, in 1974.

In 1977, Dave and his family moved to Fort Collins, Colorado, where he worked in construction as a carpenter. He lived in Colorado until 1989, when he moved back to Illinois. Later that year, Dave met Rosemarie “Rose” Holub, and they were together for 11 years before they married in 2000. Dave and Rose lived in Bensenville and were together for 37 years until his passing after a prolonged illness.

Dave was a die-hard Chicago sports fan and a great dancer. He and Rose could be seen cuttin’ a rug on many a dance floor. He also enjoyed reading books about history and science fiction, and listening to music, especially ‘70s classic rock. His love for food showed through the speed of how he ate, slowly savoring every bite. He will also be remembered as a strongly devoted husband, father and Papa.

Dave was proceeded in death by his parents Floyd and Florence; and siblings Randy, George and Mary Jo. He will be profoundly missed by his wife, Rose; daughter Cinnamon, son-in-law Larry and son Christopher; stepchildren Jennifer (Doug), Aimee (Kevin) and John; and grandchildren Zachary, Olivia and Arianna.
