David J Shaffer, of Conroe, Texas, passed away on September 20, 2025, at Harmony Assisted Living in Conroe at the age of 70 following a lengthy illness. He was born in Mount Vernon, Ohio, September 21, 1954, to parents Ralph and Marjorie (Lybarger) Shaffer.

He leaves his wife of 48 years, Beverly (Ringsmith) Shaffer; son Matthew (Melissa) Shaffer; daughters Laura (Dennis) Williams, Kristin Wychopen, Deborah Shaffer, and Kathryn Shaffer; and eight grandchildren. David is preceded in death by his son, Daniel Shaffer. David also leaves behind his brothers, Gregory (Nancy) Shaffer, Jeffrey (Lanna) Shaffer, and Scott (Renetta) Shaffer; and his sisters-in-law, Beth (Dick) Arheit and Pam Ringsmith, along with many nieces and nephews.

Raised in Fredericktown, Ohio, on a hobby farm, David could be found tending his father's sheep, gathering and boiling sap for maple syrup bottling each spring, or cutting and baling hay to fill the barn for winter. Through high school, David was a faithful Fredericktown Freddie. He played all the sports, was elected senior class president, and graduated in 1973.

David went on to graduate from The Ohio State University in 1977, earning a dual major bachelor's degree in business economics and natural resources. During these years, he met his wife, Beverly Ringsmith, and they were married in 1976. Soon after graduation, David secured a job in the oil and gas industry in Denver, Colorado. After 12 years, David continued his career in Houston, Texas, until his retirement in 2014.

David's lifelong interest in hiking and camping was the impetus behind his planning the family's travels through much of the United States' natural splendor. During his retirement years, David found personal satisfaction ministering to inmates in Texas State Prisons, helping them to understand God's love, light, and grace. Prisoners discover they are worthy of God's love and forgiveness, regardless of their past actions.

A family gathering to be held at a later date.
