David E. Shapiro, of Robbinsville, N.J. passed away on June 3, 2024 at the age of 53.
David grew up in Howell, N.J. and graduated from Howell High School. He went on to earn a B.S. in Neuropsychopharmacology from Rutgers University. David attended the University of Medicine and Dentistry where he earned his D.M.D. and then furthered his dental education by completing a General Practice Residency. He maintained a dental practice in West Windsor, N.J. for over 20 years. David loved spending time with his family and friends, especially out by the pool, at the beach (Cape May!) or in the Poconos. His hobbies included carving, riding the waves, shooting pool and throwing darts. On Sundays, he could be found in the kitchen making breakfast sandwiches for 20! He took no greater pleasure than vacationing with his family. David was quietly hilarious and loved deeply those around him.
David is survived by his wife Cari, four children, Morgan, Mitchell, Matthew and Michael, his parents Susan and Alan, brother Jonathan, as well as his father in law, three sister in laws, two brother in laws and many nieces and nephews.
Interment was private. A Memorial service was held on June 6 at Congregation Beth Chaim in Princeton Junction, NJ.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or to St. Jude Children's Reasearch Hospital.

We became dental patients of Dr. Shapiro´s about five or six years ago at the enthusiastic recommendation of a friend, and we never looked back. We found the breadth of his professional knowledge to be exceptional, and we loved that he was schooled in, and excited by (his enthusiasm was contagious!), the latest in dental technology and dental cosmetics. In short, he was a great dentist who took excellent care of our teeth. Beyond his obvious gifts as a professional, he was a thoroughly likeable person: unfailingly kind and considerate. We were greatly saddened to learn of his death and can only imagine how sorely he is missed by family and friends. Heartfelt condolences to all who knew and loved him.

Sending our deepest condolences to Dr. Shapiro´s wife and children, and to his parents, family and all the staff at his practice. We are in utter sadness to learn of his passing. He was our family dentist and we were planning to transition our kids to him from their pediatric dentist when the time came. I was so relieved when we found Dr. Shapiro so many years ago as he was truly the dentist I had always been searching for and so much more. He just seemed to know exactly how to do whatever we needed in a most gentle, thorough, reassuring way. My husband and I always felt he was one of our most favorite people as he was so gifted at what he did, was so kind and genuine, and we felt truly blessed to have him. Dr. Shapiro you will be so dearly missed! Thank you for the exceptional, brilliant, and kind care you always delivered and for being just an all around wonderful person. We will keep you and your family in our prayers and you will forever be remembered as THE BEST dentist ever in all possible ways.

It is with deepest sympathy to the life of such a gentle, kindhearted soul. His attention to detail and skill was above and beyond others. I drive 1 1/2 hours to see him and did so for the past 20+ years. He was the only dentist who was able to managed and correct my constant jaw popping and dislocation. I´m forever grateful. My family and I extend our condolences. His legacy will live on.

I just read letter from office and my heart sank into my stomach. As I swell up with tears I also can't think of a more upbeat down to earth, positive and fun loving human being. Being Italian our favorite subject was Pizza. I would joke with him that I was putting his kids through college. He always gave me the best advice, putting my health needs over profit. The man was the best technician I have ever met and took my healthcare to another level. I hope the family realizes how many hearts David touched. A truley outstanding man and will be missed immensely. RIP Dr Shapiro.
Thank you for your kind heart.

Our family devastated to hear of Dr. Shapiro's passing. We send our deepest condolences to Dr. Shapiro's family, and to his colleagues, friends, and loved ones. He was a very special man, and someone I will forever remember. I had known him as our family dentist for 20 years, and he has treated my entire family with genuine kindness and compassion. I remember him as a skillful, attentive, and knowledgeable man of his craft, and he remains the kindest clinician I've ever been treated by. He has seen me grow up. I recently had the pleasure of sharing with him news of my growing family, and we laughed about how fast time has passed. It is difficult to believe he is gone. May he be at peace. His memory is certainly a blessing.

We are deeply saddened at the passing of Dr. David Shapiro. He was our family dentist since the beginning of his practice when he started with Dr. Martin Schwartz. He was bright, kind, and intuitive. My husband, and my two children all received dental services from Dr. Shapiro. He provided excellent care with great professionalism. I am so so sorry that he will no longer be with us. He had so much to offer to this world. One time when I had a toothache, he quickly came into his office on a Sunday morning to take care of me. He went above and beyond for his patients. Dr. Shapiro was on the cutting edge in his dental practice. He often talked about new and upcoming procedures in dentistry. I always enjoyed going to the dentist to see Dr. Shapiro. He spoke about his family, his vacation, and he had a very good sense of humor. Dr. Shapiro will be greatly missed by my family and me.

His kindness and compassion. We have been a patient for many, many years. Our son was getting married 24 years ago. The night before his wedding he broke a tooth. i called Dr. Shapiro. Our son was not a patient but he said he would see him in the morning before the wedding. Dr. Shapiro took care of him with no charge to our family. We will miss him tremendously. This is such sad news and my heart goes out to his family and loved ones. Though I originally knew Dr. Schwartz, Dr. Shapiro... David and I were the same age and regularly shared what is was like going through similar life events. My twins were introduced to him when they were 18 months--they're 23 years now and still go see him. He was a kind man with a beautiful and warm spirit. He will be missed.

To David's family, we were just devastated to learn of his passing. My husband, Nate Smith, and I are former patients of his, and we talked about his kindness and skill regularly. David helped me correct another dentist's implant crown mistake a few years ago (saving the implant) in a real pinch before international travel, and I think of his kindness and master of his craft every day when I floss :) I'll let my husband write his own memories, but David basically watched him grow up, and he always looked forward to being in David's chair. David meant so much to our family, and he'll be missed. To his children, widow, parents, and extended family, please know that you have friends in New Zealand if you'd ever like to visit (Emily Penick and Nate Smith). Sending deepest sympathies.

While waiting for him after the assistant finished cleaning my teeth I instantly fell asleep. When he entered the room I awoke and told him that was my nap for the day. He stomped his foot like a little child and said, "When do I get my nap?" We had a good laugh at that. I liked him as a person and a professional. I recommended him to a few others who liked him as well.
My condolences to his family.

Both my husband and I became patients of Dr. Shapiro in the last 2 years. We each experienced a kind, caring and very helpful man, certainly with the utmost professional and warm demeanor. He would briefly talk about his family, and it was apparent how much they meant to him. We are so saddened about this. He created a legacy not only as a cherished family man, but his dental practice consists of the most caring staff. Dr. Shapiro was always willing to help, offer referrals, and ask how we were when he saw us. We send our heartfelt condolences. Gene Eagle and Sandy Rosen

I´m so very sorry to hear of Dr. Shapiro being sick and his passing. I was just a patient, but his kindness, intelligence, professionalism, jokes, and thoroughness always put me at ease. I never felt judged with elapsed appointments and he was there to help. We had such a nice conversation about autism and he proudly filled me on his family´s efforts to help the autistic community. Many prayers of love and peace to you all.

I met Dave many years ago when he came to my machine shop to have some very precision parts made. I was very impressed with his knowledge and had a very easy time discussing the work he needed done. Years later, my dentist retired and I asked Dave if he would be my dentist. His reply was "I would be honored". He enjoyed when I came in for an appointment because we can talk shop and I could understand what he told me. I loved Dave and had the ultimate respect for his skill, knowledge, and professionalism. But above that, he was a great guy and very easy to talk to. I will miss him very much and do not think I will ever forget him.
Rest in peace Dave!
