David Sheldon

David Paul Sheldon, 79, a longtime resident of Ogallala, passed away on December 7, 2024, at the Ogallala Community Hospital after complications from dementia.

David was born on July 26, 1945, in Lewellen, Nebraska, to Wallace L. "Slim" and Marvel M. Sheldon. He graduated with the Ogallala High School Class of 1963 and went on to serve as an active member of the Nebraska National Guard Field Artillery Battalion, completing his basic training at Fort Sill, Oklahoma.

On October 29, 1966, David married Linda Kay Peterson in Ogallala, and the couple enjoyed 58 years of marriage. They were blessed with two children: Monica Lynne, born on January 15, 1971, and David Douglas, born on February 28, 1986.

David's career in autobody repair spanned over four decades. He worked for Platte Valley Public Power and Irrigation District, Searle-Weiler's GM dealership (later known as Kohl Motors), and Guy Kohl before joining Bob Brunke at Brunke's Body Shop. Following his time in autobody repair, David worked for Humphries Auto Supply until his retirement due to dementia.

David had a passion for hunting, fishing, and reading. In the 1970s and 1980s, he played softball and shot trap for the Brunke Body Shop team. He also enjoyed participating in the old Oglala Rendezvous, traveling for shoots, and setting up his beloved teepee.

David was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Sharon Nemcek, and his brother, Douglas Sheldon.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Kay Sheldon; children, Monica (Marlow) Cherrington and David (Nickole) Sheldon; grandchildren, Shelby and Justin Cherrington, Izabella (Sheldon) Sykes, David, Hunter, Carlie, and Liam Sheldon; great-granddaughter, Laikelynn Elizabeth Sykes; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials are suggested to St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Ogallala in David's memory. Condolences may be shared at prairiehillsfuneralhome.com, where the services will be streamed live.

Memorial services will be on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, at 11 a.m., at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ogallala, with Pastor Albert Bader officiating. Inurnment with military honors provided by the Keith County Veteran's Organization will be in the Ogallala Cemetery.
