David Wayne Sherrod, age 77 of Lubbock, TX, passed away peacefully in the company of his family in Lubbock, TX on Friday, March 21, 2025. He is now at home in eternity with his Lord and Savior. A graveside service will be held on Monday, March 31, 2025, 3:00 PM MST at Grady Cemetery, in Grady, NM, with Tom Thornton officiating. Serving as pallbearers will be his beloved grandsons and great-grandson. A celebration of life will be held at 10:00 AM CST, Wednesday, April 2, 2025 at the chapel at Trinity Church in Lubbock, TX.
Dave was born May 23, 1947, to Harest Harold "Weece" and Eula Mae (McCain) Sherrod of Brownfield, TX. He attended Brownfield High School and briefly studied at South Plains College before joining the Army National Guard of Texas, where he served for six years and earned expert qualifications with the MG M-60 and M-16 rifle.
On August 31, 1973, Dave married Linda Kay Warren Wright in Lubbock, TX, and they shared a beautiful marriage of 51 years.
Professionally, Dave worked for Hicks and Ragland, which later became CHR, as a supervisor surveyor for the outside plant operations for many years. His career took him all over the country where he made countless friends along the way.
Dave was a proud member of the Christian Motorcyclist Association (CMA) from 1976 to 2011, and while not currently active, he and Linda remained lifelong members
.
He was a dedicated member of Trinity Church for many years, serving as a welcoming greeter and actively participating in the senior ministry, including the Joy Club. He found joy in visiting hospitals and nursing homes to lift their spirits.
To meet "Big Dave", was to be awestruck by his tall, imposing West Texas statue. To know him, was to experience his even greater capacity for love-love for Jesus, his family, and his beloved Texas.
Dave loved traveling both for work and pleasure, having visited most of the United States and parts of the World. He was an avid golfer, sports enthusiast, and above all, the loudest and proudest "Pappy" as he supported his grandkids' activities.
He enjoyed shooting, playing cards-especially 3 to 13-and never passed up a good meal or trying a new restaurant. Dave embraced the role of stepfather, helping raise two children and later became "Pappy" pouring endless love into his grandchildren and great-grandchildren with all his heart.
Dave is preceded in death by his parents; HH and Eula Mae Sherrod and brother; Dan Sherrod.
He is survived by his loving wife; Linda Sherrod, sister; Karen Sherrod of Corpus Christi, TX, daughter; LaRhonda and Steve Bailey of Broadview, NM, and son; Ronny and Ann Wright of Fleetwood, NC. He was blessed with nine grandchildren: Bryce Bailey, Stephanie (Kayle) Jesko, Brooke (Kolter) DeFoor, Seth (Jordyn) Bailey, Josiah Wright, Benjamin Wright, Gabriel Wright, Abigail Wright, Zachariah (Katherine) Wright, and nine great-grandchildren.
Dave's life was a testament to faith, friendship, and unwavering love. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
