David Slatten Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Goes Funeral Care & Crematory - Fort Collins on Dec. 12, 2023.
David Slatten, age 74, of Fort Collins, Colorado, passed away peacefully on December 9, 2023, surrounded by his family. Dave came to Fort Collins in 1971 and opened Slatten's Automotive. In the early 1990's, he changed his focus from general automotive repair to building high performance race engines. He started drag racing when he was 16 and became a very competitive drag racer. His need for speed didn't just involve drag racing. He also participated in racing motorcycles and snowmobiles.
He is survived by his wife, Ginger, and children, Jodi (George) Dehner and David (Stacey) Slatten, his grandsons, Brendan, Patrick, and Sean Dehner, and Conner and Max Slatten, his brothers, George Slatten, Robert Slatten, and Richard Slatten.
David's memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m., on Tuesday, December 19, 2023, at River of Life Church, 3161 County Road 62E, Wellington, CO 80549.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Pathways Hospice, 305 Carpenter Road, Fort Collins, CO 80525, or Racers for Christ, 1303 S. Longmore, Suite 7, Mesa, AZ 85202.

Ginger,
Lynne and I send our deepest sympathies to you and the entire family.
Dave was one of the most consequential and respected friends I´ve had in my lifetime. He (and you) did so much to support and help me in my racing endeavors.
I will always cherish the time we spent together on road trips to racetracks, our time together at the racetrack and the hours we spent talking "technical". I will never forget those memories of fun (funny) times like when we were on one of our "midnight" road trips to Las Vegas and could not remember driving through the northern Nevada town of Mesquite (which is lit up like a Christmas tree at night). Needless to say, we pulled over to get some rest. I will always remember the many "track" meals we shared and the hours I spent working in his shop on my racing projects.
Dave was not only a brilliant man, but he was a very good person with a great sense of humor who never turned down anyone´s request for help. He was a generous person and always had a big hug for Lynne. His legacy will live on through the people he touched and by his many achievements.
I´ve included a picture (which you took) of one of my fondest memories of Dave. This was a Fast/Quick race at Bandimere Speedway in 2017 where Dave won the Quick race and I won the Fast race on the same night.
Dave will be greatly missed.
With Love,
Bob and Lynne Ross

I first met Dave when I was working at FT Collins auto body. Dave's shop was in same building so I would stop by his shop often and bug him about his 57 Chevy and George's Vette. He always took the time to answer all of my questions and trust me I had a lot questions! He taught me a lot about cars and engines. When I rebuilt my very first motor I would go to Dave for advise and guidance. Without Dave's help the motor would not have run again. This started my love affair with horsepower and fast cars, boats and anything with a motor. We had not talked in years and when we started racing super gas Dave was the first person I went to for advise and help. Again he was wonderful and answered all of my questions and helped us when ever we asked. When we started to run Top Dragster we spend a lot of time together. Rick and I would always put on a steak fry at least one night at the races which Dave really enjoyed. One of my last conversations with Dave we discussed how much we both missed hanging out at the track and all the fun we had. Dave was amazing man and he will be missed by all that new him.

Ginger my thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family during this difficult time. I will miss Dave but I will always remember how he took the time to answer all my questions and his willingness to help whenever I asked him. He was larger then life to me and he will be missed.

Ginger
My thoughts and payers go out to you and your family during this difficult time. Dave was an amazing man and he will be missed by all that knew him. I first met Dave when I was 16 years old he was racing his 57 chevy and I thought he was larger then life then. He was very nice to me even though I am sure he was getting tired of this young kid bugging him all the time but he never let it show. His influence made a huge impact in my life and I am sorry I never took the time to think him for all of his kindness and wisdom he showed me all these years. I will miss him and I will think of him often. Again my thoughts and condolences go out to and your family during this difficult time.
