David Smith Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Calvert & Wikoff Funeral Home - Blue Mound on Sep. 10, 2022.
David Scott Smith (Hillbilly), 61, passed away on September 10th 2022 at his home that he shared with his son and daughter in law in Decatur Illinois. David was the second son of Robert E. Smith and M. Verna Smith of Decatur. David is survived by his mother M. Verna Smith, two sons Erik S. and Olivia (Lydia) Smith of Decatur, Lucas A. and Jessica Smith of Hammond, daughter Teairra L. Smith of Mount Auburn, five grandchildren, Lincoln Smith, Willow and Rosealie Hays, Caden and Zelda Furgeson, sister Laura (Dave) Cundiff of Decatur, brother Larry Smith of Decatur, Alyson Fowler of Decatur, Julie Smith of Decatur, Kim (Richard) Barns of Decatur.
David enjoyed a thirty-one year career at Archer Daniels Midland Company as an operator in Co Gen. He enjoyed the team he worked with, for David they weren't just co-workers they were friends and family. He was an avid lover of the St. Louis Cardinals, barbeques on his smoker, working on cars, his exotic pets and his time with family. He was a quiet man that had a snarky since of humor. He held his family and friends close to him and enjoyed telling stories of his life and the road trips he and his brother were able to take.
David was preceded in death by his father Robert E. Smith and the mother of his children Andrea L. Smith. He will be missed by all who knew him, most of all his family and close friend. His family would like to thank all of the co-workers from ADM who visited, dropped off meals and took the time to share stories of Co Gen, the amazing team of hospice nurses from Memorial Health who took care of him in his time of transition, and close friends who were a support to the family in this difficult time.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 13, 2022 at Graceland Cemetery. Dawson & Wikoff West Wood Street Funeral Home is assisting the family with services.
