Harold Orlanda Smith

Harold Orlanda Smith, 93, of East Waterford, went to be with the Lord January 24, 2026, in Mercy House of Chambersburg. He was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 67 years, Lillian (Gantt) Smith on November 20, 2021. They were married on Christmas Eve in 1954.

He was born April 14, 1932, in Shade Valley, Huntingdon County, a son of the late Wayne O. and Helen (Goshorn) Smith. Harold attended a one room schoolhouse in Concord and Horse Valley.

For 36 and ½ years he was a conscientious employee of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania as an equipment operator.

Harold was a member of the Doylesburg United Methodist Church. He had a quick wit and liked to joke a bit. When the Forestry Department made visits to schools, there was Harold as Smokey the Bear! He also had a knack for woodworking and enjoyed hunting in his younger years. He also appreciated gardening, particularly raising sweet potatoes. His family remembers his willingness to help others and his kindness to them as a brother, dad, father-in-law, grandfather, and uncle.

Surviving are 2 sons, Timothy Smith and wife, Beth, of Lancaster, and Mark Smith and wife, Patti, of Dry Run, granddaughter, Rebecca Smith and step grandson, Matthew Frankel and his children, Landon and Madelyn. Also surviving are his sisters, Helen Amey and husband, Robert, of Horse Valley and Sharon Lilley of Port Royal and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Janet Burdge and brothers, John Smith and Darwin Smith.

A memorial service will be held at the Doylesburg United Methodist Church, 22245 Main Street, Doylesburg, PA, Sunday, April 12, 2026, at 2 PM with Pastors Darwin Goshorn and Daniel Kwadwo Akomea-Agyin, officiating.
