David Ross Smith II, of Gibsonville, NC, loving husband and father unexpectedly passed at work from a short illness on December 6th, 2023, on the MV/William R. Barr Barge in Paden City, WV.
He was born to Karen Denise Smith and Donnie May on November 19th, 1977, in Spartanburg, SC.
He worked as a tugboat deckhand for Amherst Madison for over half of his life. He had recently been working towards earning his pilot's license and was very excited for this new career venture. David was always a hard worker, and he loved the outdoors, hiking, fly/ trout fishing, golfing or anything involving family time. David was a die-hard Redskins and Mountaineers fan. David had a smile that would light up the room and was always a shoulder to lean on for those around him.
David is preceded in his death by his mother Karen Smith Withrow and her parents David Ross Smith (PA) and Jeanne Harless Smith (MA) who helped raise him. Both natives of Lewisburg, WV.
David is survived by his loving wife Chelsie Lowe Smith, a son Brevon David Westfall, daughters Sophia Lowe and Sonya Springs, a sister Kayla Marie May, a brother Travis Dalton Withrow and his wife Tiffany Cauthren Withrow and their two children, his niece and nephew, Carleigh and Corbin; step parents Carl and Michelle Withrow; maternal aunt and uncle Carol and Steve Lilly as well as a host of family and friends.
A celebration of life will be held at the Moose Lodge on January 27th, 2024, at 3pm.
