Roger was born on August 25, 1948, in Charleston, West Virginia. He graduated from Dunbar High School and attended West Virginia University. Following graduation, he attended West Virginia University School of Law, where he distinguished himself as an editor of the WVU Law Review. After his two-year clerkship, Roger joined Jackson, Kelly, Holt & O'Farrell in 1975. He practiced with Jackson Kelly for the remainder of his career, becoming well known and respected in the legal community for his courtroom skills. He was continually honored as one of West Virginia's premier labor and employment attorneys for several decades. Roger was a member of the Old Stone Church in Lewisburg, West Virginia.
A memorial service will be held at St. John's Episcopal Church in Charleston West Virginia at a later date.

I worked for Roger many years ago at Jackson Kelly. It was while I worked with Roger that Katie and Becca were born. He was a kind and quiet man. I enjoyed working with him
